B&W Argentine Tegu; Kyros!

So yeah this is Kyros. He's a hatchling Black and white Angentine Tegu. The green on his head will eventually fade to white and black as he grows, and just so everyone is clear I'm using the him/he/his pronoun since there is no way to distinguish gender at this age. For all I know he'll end up like my Beardie, and turn out to be a girl. In this case, he'll go by Kyris, and the pronouns will be swapped!

Anyway, here's a pic of the lil' guy. (I'm always amazed with new cellphones camera quality)

His tank is 4 feet long, three feet wide, and two feet tall. He has two hides (One on cool, one on hot side of tank), Coconut mulch substrate which stays nice and damp throughout the day, two climbing trees of carrying height and size, and a large bathing water dish fit for an adult ball python but not nearly deep enough to risk drowning.

EMERGENCY

KYROS GOT HURT!

My girlfriend had him outside the tank for some quality time before a feeding and he decided to dive bomb off of her. NEVER before has my cat harmed out lizards, but the little **** ran over and clawed the poor guy. Here is the cut:

We've been disinfecting the wound, and putting Neosporin on it. He's still moving just as fast, and eating, and it's been about 12 hours since the wound occurred. I was told the vet can't stitch and only can offer cream to apply, but my local lizard specialist I buy from says it's not worth and to just keep the wound clean.

His tank has been emptied, leaving only paper towel flooring, a single hide, and his water dish. I want to keep his substrate and anything possible out of the wound. He isn't bleeding, so I think it may just be the first layer that was cut through, in which case I think all I have to worry about is infection?

Did my lizard guy spew a crock of ****, and should I pay the hundreds of dollars to bring him in to the vet to be looked at and treated? (Vet wants $80 just to examine, then god knows how much to treat.)

Poor guy. If it isn't bleeding then I'd work on preventing infection. If you can get your hands on some manuka honey I'd apply that. It helps the wound heal, will protect it, and act as an antimicrobial. I use it on my dragon if he gets a wound and I use it on myself when I get cut. If you can't find manuka honey, raw/unpasteurized honey should do the trick too.

40 hours and the guy is still kicking. He ate 12 medium crickets last night around 7pm. Surprised for such a little guy he can sure put down some food, hurt or not. I'm feeling pretty good about this. But it is weird putting the same honey I put in my coffee this morning on my tiny lizard. :?

Other than a scab, this dude is doing great. He ate like, 18 crickets the other day for lunch, then for dinner I gave him about 10 grams of turkey and three meal worms and he ate it all. I can tell he's going to be a real vice on the wallet real quick haha Really happy he's okay though. Hope the scab disappears soon and he's back to being all shiny and pretty. I'm open to suggestions to make the scab fall off quicker or whatever. So far it's just neosporin daily, and a misting of his tank in the morning and at night.
