She is still very young. It took Zen a LONG time to be ok with me, also my first beardie Puff. It took her nearly 2 years to bond with me.
Just keep working with her, she will eventually settle down and be a lap lizard 🦎 🙂

I just feel like I'm stumbling my way through it.... I don't know if I should be pushing her to come out or respecting when she doesn't want to... and I need to clean her tank now that she's done shedding. Which means maybe taking her out and storing her in the pet carrier against her will? (And then I gotta do it again for her vet visit a few days later. DX)

Maybe I just work around her again for the upcoming clean... Like, clean one thing at a time, taking it out and rinsing it and then putting it back. That way I don't have to take her out and store her in the carrier twice in one week.

That's usually how I do it also 🙂

Alas, while she was willing to stay with me under duress she tried to jump for the enclosure as soon as I got near it... It seems she prefers being inside to out, for the most part.

Not only that, but she went into the hide as soon as she got back. Even though it's meal time.... (Hopefully she comes out later and eats.)

I'm never sure where the boundary between pushing her to get used to stuff and just harassing her is... Like. Is forcing her to come out occasionally a good thing, even if it leads to her doing stuff like this?
My Atticus used to do this too until he got older and used to being picked up. I made him at first but now he is used to it.

Cool photos :)
Yes, some can change their color a lot while they grow.
When I got Taco, he was chocolate brown with grey. Over time, he became a mix of light sand colors with a lot of orange (none of that present when he was young).

I agree very much. Taco was a very "shy guy" - really like from the wild. Hiding when I entered the room for example, even if eating at that moment. Not daring to take insects or food in general from my hands for months, only from the bowl. Now I pet him, carry him around, can touch every part of his body and he loves (!) watching me being in the same room and doing something. Also I can let him out, and then just pick him up like a sweet cat.
Mine wasn't even very food-motivated (and still is not); so bugs didn't convince me - he took the first insects from my hands after he allowed me to pet him. What helped: Being around more often, just sitting there, reading, and keeping a routine (for example, saying his name before I opened the enclosure, that helped him making things more predictable).

Thinking back...when Kai was a baby, he was greenish. We had him on green reptile carpet at the time (didnt know any better). When we replaced the carpet with gray nonadhesive liner, his color went from greenish to gray and we never saw the green again. I assumed at the time that he was just changing color because he was older, but now I wonder if he was color changing to blend in even then!
