Reading some stories about some beardies passing has gotten me really scared that i dont have a herp vet handy for my Charlie, he is not in need of a vet now but i would like to know of one, i already searched on hervetconnection but i only found ones that are really far from my home, I live in Douglaston Queens, I found an animal hospital where i take him to get his nails trimmed that is near by but the vet there treats reptiles but is not a specialist and in an emergency situation i am afraid he wont help much... anyone from queens around here?? thanks!!
Thankd for the reply but I already checked there and it gave me ones that were at least 40 minutes driving distance and i dont have a car so in case of an emergency im thinking i need something closer...
I'm not from NYC but you might want to try http://www.reptilechannel.com, they have a listing of vets, not sure how close to you. Also, check with local humane societies, reptile rescues and herp societies, they often have info about qualified herp vets. Be sure that you ask any vet if have experience with bearded dragons or other lizards. I lucked out, a friend I worked with gave me a recommendation of a vet who keeps and at one time bred beardies and she is a qualified herp vet. I wouldn't take my lizards to any vet who doesn't have at least some background with herps or hasn't gone through extended courses to treat exotics.
