Chomper is making bowel movements every day, very active, and eats non stop. He just seems to eat whatever you give him. When there's no food around he almost seems bored, haha. He is very fat but it doesn't slow him down. I've been giving him; bearded dragon bites, carrot, lettuce, canned crickets, canned silkworm pupae, and freeze dried crickets. I don't want to over feed him. I usually give him a small bowl full of it plus treats here and there. Is there anything I can give him that's not too filling as a treat? Again he will eat ANYTHING. Even things he should.
my bearide who is about 5 months old will eat I swear 200 roaches a day if I let him. He eats right at 100 a day and usually eats like 50 in 5 mintes. He also eats salad and worms with this daily so my guy is also a pig. I think that when they are still young it is considered healthy but as tey become closer to around 1 year of age I would wean him down a bit and get him to eating only 20 or less protein a day, and eating more sald each day. Obeisity is a big problem in beardies once they hit a certain age. : )
From looking at your past posts, your beardie is a juvie, so he's still growing and needs lots of food. Exactly how many feeders is he getting a day? And what do you mean by fat? Can you post a photo of him, or weigh him?
I don't know the nutritional value of canned food, but I know the freeze dried crickets definitely aren't as good as live gutloaded ones.
If I were you I'd switch him to live food, if he's always hungry then his body needs those extra calories to grow, it's only if you're feeding him really high fat stuff (like waxworms) or he's already fully grown that you need to watch what he eats.
Give him a nice salad every day of dark leafy greens and squash, you can add other fruit and veggies for variety (there's a great list here of what they can have: http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html) then let him eat as many appropriate sized crickets/silkworms/roaches as he can eat in 10 minutes twice a day. You can also feed him phoenix worms, most beardies love them, and they are great as a staple or a treat.
That ore packed stuff is the same as us eating junk food every day, the best is fresh. Roaches are the best and order in bulk to make them cheaper per roach. I keep mine in a 10 gallon fish tank with screen lid or h can use a rubber made storage bin, cut out a hole in the lid and hot glue a square if screen material. They can have the beardie a left over salad from Each day, pretty easy .
