i always think of the long forked tongues of monitor lizards as something very elegant - purple, and bending down in a curved way, like carefully inspecting something.
The bearded dragon tongue is for me of a weird kind but differently. Just like this "hint of a reptile, can't hide it". Showing "remember, no, I'm not your cat"

Oh, I love those tongues. Pretty much all reptile tongues have some superpowers built in. Super smell that tastes smells in the ground and wind? Super stretch and sticky to grab prey? Mimic a small fish to act as a lure? Provide "vision" in full blackness? And that's just the tongue. Forget that they have three "eyes" too? lol
Mother nature went full X-Men lol

So cute. Just crawled out to her bowl and is looking for breakfast

As usual, picked out her favorite soldier fly larvae and gold raspberries while avoiding the greens lol. So cute to watch her gently abd expertly place her tongue to grab exactly what she wants.

It's funny you mentioned yummy spiders 🕷. I went to get Sinatra out yesterday and there was a fairly large jumping spider setting on his tail. He was looking at me will you get the d@mn spider please. It was the funniest thing I've seen in a while. I absolutely regret not getting a picture. Oh and don't worry everyone walked away with no injuries (I am not a spider hater, I'll rescue them if they are in need also) ALLLLLTHOUGHHHH I think Sinatra was the one that needed rescueing lol

Not sure on the wood, but grapevine is best guess lol Driftwood washup. Vine maple and cedar both can get some really gnarly shapes so I was thinking along those lines. Or a main root of something. Not much in terms of fossils, shells or sea glass. But great driftwood.

Please avoid the cedar, it is toxic. If you do use it seal the bejebbers outta it.

Cedar and madrone, both beautiful but on the list of no no lol But driftwood has had just about everything leeched out into the water and replaced with salt. A lot of soaking in freshwater to get that out. Plus scrubbing and pressure washing the sand and barnacles lol

My Taco watched me today with eyes just a tiny bit open while I ate breakfast.
(His first light turns on at the time when I usually finish breakfast, and he loves to watch people eating. Often he's already fully up at that time, but today it was more like this, but looking up from deep in his burrow instead of looking down from something.)

I try to go out in the desert away from everything every year and catch some. Snickers used to go bonkers for them.
