We got my daughter a bearded dragon for Christmas after months of research. We decided on the bearded dragon because of their mild demeanor. About 5 weeks ago, Miles (our bearded dragon) started acting really aggressive. Trying to bite us, lunging at us when we put our hand in the tank. He's eating fine. We feed him about 30-40 sm crickets/day plus greens and carrots. We have a Reptisun 10.0 tube light and a separate UVA basking light. I am the only one who can hold him because he never quite settles completely while holding him. He will try to get out of my hands so I have to be really alert the whole time. If I hold him against my chest, cup my hand over his head and rub his back he'll calm down. He will also tolerate the beardie burrito at times, but otherwise he's skittish. I generally speak to him gently and try and keep the room calm when I hold him. I have tried to feed him both mangoes and crickets by hand and he won't eat from me. He's probably 4-5 months old. Is there something else we should be doing? I can't be the only one who holds him forever.
Sorry Miles isn't taming down well for you.
Have you changed anything in his tank or his surroundings that could be stressing him?
Where did you get him?
What are the temperatures in the tank & what type of thermometer are you using?
How often are you using calcium supplementation for him?
You can post pictures of him & your setup too.
