Help please? Is this an abscess? I was going to take Boo to the vet a week ago -but he went into a shed..wasn't looking any different until shed came off...To me it looks bigger than before. I am taking him to vet on wed -is it safe to wait until then? ER can see him until late- and the good herp vet is in on wed Other than this he is still active and eating - husbandry ok -Boo is four years old- & we had a move in February -that probably stressed him as much me. I am sick at the thought of waiting- but am new at current job -already caught grief for missing a couple days due to bronchitis/sinus infections...[*]http://i1094.photobucket.com/albums/i442/shywolf1/image.jpg[*]
Hi there....what a pretty girl, I can see the little cyst/abcess there on her pretty , pretty face ! It may be something that the vet will lance. If you Google " Treating abcesses in reptiles " there's quite a good write up by Melissa Kaplan. I hope your girl will be O.K.!
Thank you so much for responding -will check out that write up! She is actually a he -but yes is my sweet boy! I can't breathe at the thought of ever not being able to look into his soulful eyes! I lost for words ...
Oooops, I meant what a HANDSOME boy....and you clearly wrote that he is a he ! Please offer my apologies if I offended your manly dragon, and best wishes for a speedy recovery !
Well it's been a rough morning...the vet took a sample via syringe-and looked at under a microscope..he says he can't be sure if its just a abscess. He is sending it out to a lab and it's going to take a couple of days for the results ..
There is a possibility it's a tumor -when I heard that I just lost it. The vet sent us home with antibiotics -I will post dosing in a lil bit..I want to get a supplement for him too. Maybe that silk worm stuff. Boo has had a bath ...and now getting a lil outdoor sun
The medicine is enrofloxacin 100 MG/ML -.04 ml once a day..until I get further instruction.. Any ideas or thoughts on how I can help my boy is deeply appreciated ..thanks again for responding ..
Oh my, I know you are on pins + needles, and I hope the results come back ASAP and hopefully not a bad diagnosis . Just keep your Boo boy as stress free as possible, hopefully he'll take the meds. easily...if he struggles just be as calm as you can and pull the side of his lip a bit and get it in the side of his mouth if he won't open for you. You probably need a probiotic as well to restore the gut flora that is destroyed by the antibiotic. Some websites sell Acidophiliz + or Benebac, some pet stores may have it as well. Two members here sell one or both as well as the serrapeptase, beardeddragon.co [ Cheryl + Jess ] or Tracie,[ user name Drache613 ] who may have some extra advice if you p.m. her. I truly hope this will be something benign and harmless...best wishes for both you and Boo !
Thank you for taking the time to get back to me and for your advice -I will get a pm out to Tracy and check out the serrapeptase...Boo got his first dose -didn't put up too much a fuss.( my fingers are crossed)
Oh poor thing, but I don't think it is a tumor or cancer, or shouldn't be. It appears to be a scale that is infected. Maybe a cricket bite possibly?
When do you get the results back from the lab?
They were not sure if it was an abscess? I hope that it is, but, if it is a tumor it is very small & should be able to be removed easily. Let's just hope it is nothing!
Boo is so beautiful, too his coloring is great!
I PM'd you also.
How much does he weight & I can double check his Baytril dose, too.
Hello Tracy...the vet has him at 708 g ..as far as crickets go -he won't touch them anymore..I really hope it is just an infected scale..my stomach is is knots waiting. I tried to post this morning around four and it said the website is down.
Just got word today Boo has to have surgery...they said from slides that its either sarcoma or fibro blast --I hope I got that right...so they said to drop him off at 7:20 am Tuesday ...they will remove and biopsy..and it sounds like I can't stay and wait for him...I am really freaked out now..need them to walk me thru this-explain everything. It's scary -anesthesia on a little one. I don't want him to be scared I don't want to loose him!
Oh, I'm sorry to hear the news about your Boo ! I know you're a nervous wreck, it's so understandable. You are really fortunate to have caught it early, it's just small so there is a much better chance that things will turn out alright. Most animals do well with surgery, and it doesn't seem like it will be too invasive. Beardies are strong animal and snap back from things very well,so try not to think the worse. Again, you caught it early + it hopefully will be taken care of easily.
