Hi Julie...that is so nice of you to take this dragon. Here are a few things to think of before shipping. Ask the person to Google the " Shipyourreptiles " site to see how to pack. What will your temps. be from departure state and where you live ? If a heat pack is needed, will they have one that is made for shipping animals [ brand name is Uni heat ] If not, will they use a Walmart type { Hot hands " warmer ?] There is a big difference, because the " hot hands can get VERY hot and may be too hot for the box. Any heat pack should be wrapped in newspaper and not allowed to be in contact with the animal. It can be taped to the inside top of the styrofoam lid. And then ask if it's being shipped UPS or Fedex overnight for next morning delivery. Some people don't use that option to save a few dollars and the dragon is on the truck for longer period of time. Be SURE they don't choose the 2 day option or USPS [ postal service ] they can be VERY unreliable even if you use the next day delivery. So....I just thought I'd throw that out to you.
Thank you SO much for the information. The owner has no idea what she's doing. I'm still not sure this is going to work. If it goes, it'll be because I managed rather entire transaction through shipyourreptiles.com...
OK. The little one is on his way. He's supposed to arrive by 10:30 AM tomorrow morning. Please pray he arrives alive. The owner said he was eating well and recovering from being attacked by his adult female.
OK--he's here. (I call him "he" because I don't know any differently... ;^)
Dear Lord in heaven, he's skinny. I'll post a picture soon, but--wow--he's skinny. If you looked up "emaciated", you'd see this little one. :|
But he's here now. He's had a brief soak, he's nice and toasty, and he's picked his head up and he's looking around.
Oh my gosh! He's eating! He just sucked down half-a-dozen Phoenix worms, a butter worm, and 1 mL of Carnivore Care/Jump Start. Wow! Didn't expect that!
Now he's sleeping. He seems weak and a little uncoordinated. More later...
So he made it ? Wow, that's great ! I'm sure he is stressed but that's really a good sign that he ate ! Please be very careful not to overfeed ....he can throw it all up just as easy as it went down. What you fed him is enough for now, you can try a little bit more later on, but I wouldn't give another butterworm, maybe just one of those a day. The Phoenix worms + Critical Care will be good for him now. As you see how he handles that amount you can add more after several days. Hopefully he'll digest everything well. Small Crickets or dubias would be ideal as well. Keep his baths short, supervised + warm. Pat him dry completely + right back in the tank. Hoping the little one does well for you....what an adventure for this baby.
