Adopted Beardie

Since this is my first ever post HEY YALL!
Alright now to the main concerns, Weve recently adopted toothless off someone who could no longer care for him, I’m deff taking him to the vet for a check up, I’ve had him about 2 weeks now trying to get him accommodated without Over stressing his situation, this is my first personal beardie but I’ve had to handle quite a few of them working at a pet shop but never came across one with his temperament, Now we’ve noticed that he literally refuses to eat ANYTHING asked prior owner if he had any health concerns We should be worried about (keep in mind I’m still taking him to the vet as I don’t fully trust his ‘perfect health’ conditions) which she stated he had parasites that were treated and dealt with ASAP, during the first week he started losing weight to the point his skin was sagging would refuse crickets and only eat a max of two if we were lucky we’ve had the hardest time finding any veggies he’ll even try or fruits for that matter (hes 3 btw) his enclosure is retrofitted to perfect conditions, new heat lamp, 10.0 uvb bulbs, gradient heat to cool And a good sized tank that was used to house another dragon for 10 years, now I suspect he has the starts of MBD as within the first week I noticed the tremors, she was only ever giving him calcium without any D3 or muti vitamins ( I’ve had to put him on calcium+d3, a multi vitamin and an electrolyte) I also noticed the lighting she gave me was .. excuse my language but complete trash, he had a heat lamp that was put on its side due to the type of lamp it is and a purple heat light, No UVB anywhere In sight which is why I suspect he’s got the starts of MBD, I’ve been able to slow the tremors by getting his husbandry to pretty much perfect along with supplementing with the vitamins and electrolytes and so far I’ve been able to get him to gain a bit of weight with mealworms, now I know mealworms are a huge topic of wether it’s good or not so I’m trying to find another staple that is healthy that he’ll have a hard time refusing as he’s the Most PICKY dragon I’ve ever met, as well as any other suggestion that might help with reversing the MBD as it’s not extremely bad and if you didn’t know what to look for you wouldn’t even notice it, he’s also slightly aggressive when it comes to certain people and has only started warming up to me which also makes me suspect he wasn’t handled much or properly, any tips and tricks on that ? He’ll legit be fine one day and the next like he’s possessed any suggestions help as he truly is the sweetest boy when he’s chilled out and I refuse to give up on him like his prior owner

Welcome to beardie world ---- please get rid of the sand substrate--- you can get some textured NON adhesive shelf liner from your local home improvement store or Walmart --- its easier to keep clean w/ vinegar/ water 50/50 --- sand harbors bacteria and is hard to keep clean
Next your UVB is a coil or a long tube fixture---- Please NO coils they are inadequate and will cause health issues MBD being the worst -- --- he wont eat w/ out proper basking temps and properly placed UVB---- basking temps juvie / adult dragon 95-100 -- taken w/ a digital probe thermometer--- No stick ons please--- please get your UVB replaced ASAP if your using a coil - you will need a 24" fixture like a Zoo Med Sunblaster or Arcadia w/ a Reptisun 10.0 T 5 or the Arcadia 12% bulb --- if hes showing signs of MBD like the tremors etc it is starting and the coil UVB is not giving adequate UVB ---
here is a website for the Arcadia Pro T 5
https://www.pangeareptile.com/store/arcadia-prot5-uvb-kit.html you want the 12% bulb
Here is the Zoo Med you will need to get the Reptusin 10.0 T 5 bulb this fixture comes w/ a 5.0 bulb it can be used for back up but the distance and placement is different from the 10.0

... um not sure if you actually read my post complete through ?? if you read towards the end you would notice I said not to mind the substrate as it was being replaced with something else, he also has the right lightning (who have tubes) my concern was on what to feed him as he’s super picky and refuses anything but mealworms ..as well as what the best way to reverse the begins of MBD as I don’t think he’s at the severity of needing a Calcium shot he has no deformities (besides the top of his tail which I suspect was the previous owner failure to remove stuck shed) keep in mind he’s adopted/rescue and I’ve only had him in my care for two weeks so the MBD was something previous owner didn’t catch usually takes months for it to start showing, and considering she only handed me a heat lamp I suspect he didn’t have any in his enclosure ? but thank you for the links and substrate suggestion !

Missed the substrate -- your UVB what are you using? The distance and placement is crucial- the mbd cannot be reversed but can be prevented from getting worse-- he's hooked on mealworms- those should be fed as treats not a staple- I would get him some dubias- they are a good staple feeder--- you can try bsfl on top of his salads- do not dust them - order large-- add to his salads in front of him the movement will get him to the bowl--

Reptisun 10.0 the lights run all along his tank, and I assumed he was addicted as much when I asked previous owner what he’d normally eat she stated mealworms, some fruit and greens (not sure what green) but he legit wouldn’t touch anything I offered (I caught him eating dandelion greens yesterday when the door was closed maybe he’s a shy eater? ) I only started offering him mealies because he’d refuse crickets which is something I can find easily around me and was worried an his weight loss so caved in to make him gain some weight

You will need to shop around -- I have never ordered from Joshs frogs or aafeeders or abdragons but others have flukersfarms has the best super worms ever -- they come in a tube they are big and you would need to have plastic containers/w lids w/ holes feed bran and carrots for hydration
Shop around and see what you find but your gonna be better off ordering on line than getting the insects from pet stores

Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
