So today I was cleaning my baby beardie's cage and as I was lifting the screen it fell right on top of him just below the shoulder blade area. He was very startled and after a thorough inspection there was no visible sign of damage. He has full range of motion of all limbs including head and tail and is back to being active, basking, eating, etc. how resilient are these animals physically? Should I look for any signs of internal damages? Little dude is back to being his normal happy self I just want to make sure he stays that way and is not in pain.
This happened the me about 3 week ago. My beardie was on the couch and my dad didnt see him and he sat on him. Afterwards I was freaking out and I thought he was hurt. I was so mad at myself for leaving him on the couch and I didnt know what t do. I didnt see any visible damage on him either and he is fine. He has been eating a lot and being very active so i dont think its a big deal. Good luck
So the screen literally fell right on top of him, correct? How far did it fall from?
If just the screen portion hit him then he probably will be fine, but if the metal frame portion hit him it may have hurt him a bit.
All you can do is watch him for signs of distress such as loss of appetite, lethargic behavior, black or darkened beard which is persistent, darker than normal tail tip, or blood in stool. If he exhibits any strange behavior I would take him to a vet just to be sure.
He is acting normal though & eating?
They are pretty resilient overall but can get hurt especially when they are tiny.
Let us know how he is doing.
As I said, no visible signs of damage. No discoloration. He is acting fine, eating, sleeping, all that good stuff. He's actually eating more right now (I'm feeding him as I'm typing this) than he has since I got him. He pooped today big time which is good. It's a little lighter (more brown) than normal but if I'm not mistaken blood in the stool would be black or even red, at least that's the way it is with humans. It was actually the corner/metal frame that caught the little guy, the fall was only a couple inches due to the fact that he was on his basking rock at the time. I'm thinking (and hopeful) that the little dude is okay but I will stay vigilant
It sounds like he will be fine, but definitely keep an eye on him for awhile longer. Reptiles hide injuries & illness extremely well.
A couple of inches isn't too bad though, luckily. I am glad he isn't dark in color or lethargic & that there wasn't blood in his stool, either.
Keep us posted on him.
