I am in vocational school in high school in the furniture making and repair class and am currently building a 5 ft by 3 ft cage my computer is acting funny and cant upload pictures as of now but i will get them but I want some neat ideas for decoration and what not any ideas at all post them
Just a heads up. . . measure the doors in your house and make sure it will fit inside! I found out the hard way (Well almost I hadn't put the thing all the way together).
The opening is usually 36" but when you add the jam and stop and the door knob, it is smaller.
hello, sorry i didnt respond untill now. the outdoor carpeting im refering to is kind of like a cheap door-mat. the ones i found measured almost 2' x 3' so it was perfect for his 40gallon. they do make them bigger, just try to find a rug without "loops" in the fabric. i dont know how else to explain it except very short pile carpet that their nails cant get stuck in. it should have a rubber bottom, not a fabric like normal carpet.
if your refering to the "bed" i made for Mayze's cage then here are some more pics:
the wood part isnt something i built; 8 beers came in it as a christmas gift  ... ive been keeping nintendo cartridges in it for a couple years, i came across it while scavenging for things i could add to their tank. i screwed and tied on a plush piece of material in a loose way so it sags like a hammock. lately Mayze enjoys sleeping in late under the bed, i think she is going into brumation...
you could probably find something equally inovative; just look around in the garage or in your room, you just might find something you can use.
hope this helps alittle  .
*EDIT* i just realized all the new pics of their bed are still on my phone. these pics were from the first night i let them play around on it. after a couple hours of supervised exploration i took the bed out. to make it more perminant and safe i changed out the thumbtacks for ties and screws.
This is actually a response to this guys set up...have you thought about making it possible for ur dragons to go under that ramp you built? if you managed it, they would have a huge surface area gain, and a hide to boot...just something that i saw that might be cool.

use tile and outdoor carpeting, it looks awesome in big tanks. here are some pics of my big tank(small compared to yours  ):
not the greatest job, but if you actually have access to a wet-saw you can do waaay better.
yea, i was actually thinking of cutting the ladder at either the top or the bottom. it would open up as a square hole that would lead down with a ramp(kind of like the pyramids in egypt) to a big open den. i would probably light it with some kind of soft lighting so i could see them in there. heck, its big enough that i could put that bed "under ground" inside of the den.
sorry to take the discussion away from the original poster. on the other hand, this kind of relates to him too since hes building a massive viv...
