Bean's light burned out on Saturday, so I expedited a new Reptisun 10.0 from petmountain, and it should be here tomorrow or tuesday.
Since I've been working all weekend, I've had it set up so I have his regular light on all day (its about 80 degrees) and then I crank up his heat lamp before work and when I get home so it reaches 100 or so. I'd do it all day, but I'm gone and I don't want him to overheat when I'm not home.
He didn't have much of an appetite this morning, and hardly has one tonight. I gave him a warm bath and he drank a lot, but he definitely doesnt look his best(he's also miserable from shedding).
I'm wondering if this has anything to do with his lack of UV for the time being. Poor little guy
I'll be home all week, so he'll be warm enough, and hopefully his light will be here tomorrow. D'you think thats the cause of his non-appetite/grumpiness?
I feel so badly for him.
A few days without UVB won't hurt, the whole thing with heat will definately mess with his appetite though. They need at least a basking of 95 degrees in order to digest their food..Hopefully you get it straightened out quickly so he can get back to normal and happy!
He will be fine without the uvb for a couple of days. The purpose of uvb is Vit D production, which helps them absorb their calcium. As far as his heat lamp, proper basking temps are actually around 105 to 110F, 105 being the target. The temp needs to be in this range to promote appetite, speed up metabolism and help them properly digest their foods. Lower temps in the mid to upper 90's aren't warm enough. He won't overheat at 105F. His mood is probably due to his shedding, many dragons tend to eat a little less and be a little lazy and grumpy during a shed. The warm baths will help hydrate him and loosen the shed.
Good to know!
Yep, I'm aware of the temp situation, and usually its around 95-100 in his basking area, but my roomies been gone this weekend and I just didn't feel right leaving him for 9 hours with an unmonitered temp :/
Hopefully he'll be back to his oldself soon

Bean's temps are up, and he's almost done with his shed, but hes still barely eating
Yesterday he wasnt hungry at all, but he'll look at his worms so he definitely sees them, but he wont go for them. He's been drinking water though.
He's happy as a clam, basking, no stress marks, but still not eating He just did a big poo too, so I doubt hes having digestive problems.
what gives? :?
Give him another day or two to finish the shed and he should be chowing as usual. He sounds fine, he's basking and active and seems quite happy so he'll start eating again soon. I assume petmountain got the uvb to you? Thats good, that will make a huge difference too.
