My juvie beardie is about to eat his way through my wallet. I can get 500 5/8" Dubois for around $40 but that only lasts him about 2 weeks. $80 a month is a lot more than I expected to spend. Is there anything I can do? A cheaper food maybe? He is only 11inches so no supers.
If you don't mind ordering online http://www.flukerfarms.com/crickets.aspx might be a possibility. I've never ordered from them so I can't vouch for their reliability but maybe someone else could chime in on that.
They have:
2000 1/2" crickets for $28
1000 3/4" crickets for $14
1000 1" crickets for $14
I'm not sure if feeders get much cheaper then crickets but I hope you can find something to better fit your budget.
O wow. My dragon is 12" and will only eat about 7-8 3/4" dubia per day (if I try to pester him with more, even at a later time, he'll just turn his head away and get mad at me). This sounded low to me, but the vet says he looks just fine.
I supplement with butterworms and waxworms and crickets. Bulk crickets are definitely the cheapest feeder I've seen - though they're a bit harder to keep than dubia. However, since crickets are not as much meat, I wonder if the cost would even out or exceed.
O !!!
Turkish roaches ! They're a little harder to keep than dubia - but they are much cheaper. My friend has gotten them from here : http://www.gulfcoastcrickets.com/. They are faster than dubia and can climb better - however, my friend uses a ring of packing tape or two around the top of the tub and she has never had an escape.
