hi my name is kristina my beardies name is bowser he hasnt been pooping the past comple days i been worried about inpaction is there anyway to get rid of that at home or do i need to take him to the vet i got him at about 4 months old hes 8 months now i just dont know how to help him he has an app for the vet on the fourth for a check up.
A couple days without pooping is no real concern. As they get older, they tend to sometimes go longer between poos.
However, we can go over your setup and his diet with you to make sure there is no other issues that could lead to some digestive problems?
We'd need you to answer a few questions if you want:
What is his basking surface temp?
Cool side temp?
What are you measuring your temperatures with?
What UVB bulb do you have? Please be specific with brand and type
Can you go over his daily diet with us? Quantities and types of food please
And for good measure, could you post a picture of him and his setup for us? We love pictures here lol
how do i post pics on here? and his diet is greens and fruits crickets accasional meal warms i give him about 10 crickets in the am then grens in mid day then fruits and greens and sometimes meal worms at night. his temps are 75 on cool side and almost 100 on basking side. hes in a 20 gallon tank for now ganna be getting a bigger tank real soooon. his lights are zoo med brand and i belive there 5.0 for uvb. once i know how to add pics ill take some and add some to the web site. as i said hes only 8 months old and i had him scence he was 4 months.
Ok, So you have the reptisun 5.0 CFL bulb. Unfortunately, that really isn't a suitable bulb for our dragons. First off, the 5.0 is made more for tropical creatures whereas the 10.0 is for desert creatures. On top of that, the CFL bulbs really don't put out nearly enough UVB. They are very weak bulbs.
Would you be able to upgrade to the reptisun 10.0 long tube? You will need a new fixture, but your current bulb isn't sufficient and he will not be getting his proper exposure under it.
Yeah unfortunately the starter kit comes with a lot of junk for our dragons
But if you can upgrade to the tube that would be fantastic for your dragons health.
I've asked 4 times now about your thermometer lol. Temperatures are the most important part of our dragons health. And temperature directly relates to digestion and therefore the potential for impaction. So it's crucial that you're using an accurate device to measure your temps. Otherwise, it might be too cold to properly digest, or too hot and your dragon won't bask long enough to digest properly.
sorry he uses his basking spot half of the day or more and then he goes to the cool side on and off i have two thermostates in his cage id take a pic but as i said idk how to add new pics it will only let me read the pics i already added
Click on New Image on the left side of the images when it comes up -- you can then add new photos-
please invest in a digital probe or infrared heat gun- the heat gun from Home Depot or Lowes for around $10-12 - the probe from Petsmart or Petco for around $5-- I would recommend both- the sticks ons are terribly inaccurate --- temps in the tank along w/ UVB are crucial for the health of your dragon --- basking spot should be around 95-105 for him now --- since he is no longer a baby --- here is a website for nutrition for him http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html--- fruits should only be fed once in awhile as they are high in sugar--- meal worms sparingly as well- you can feed him super worms butter worms horn worms --- just dont let him get addicted as they will --- please continue to dust his bugs w/ vitamins and calcium D3--- 2 x per week for vitamins --- and 5 x per week for calcium--- if you have any more q's please ask --- how is the upgrade for tank going ? -- He will need that here ASAP -- he is too big for a 20 gallon tank -- you can find used tanks on FB marketplace or craigslist just be sure they are sanitized if you get used -- and try and find one w/ front doors --- 75-120 gallon is what is recommended for a adult dragon - if you help finding a new tank please ask
Karrie
