Hi I don't know whats going on with my Beardie?? Any help would be appreciated. He hasn't eaten many crickets the past few days now, and when he does its only 2 or 3 a day. But he's eating all his greens. His poops look normal, still going everyday. He has no stress marks, but he's constantly glass dancing and head bobbing, running all around his tank, he'll climb up on his branch, then jump down, run back and forth then glass dance again, go into the corner and bob his head. We have been taking him out of his tank and letting him explore the house a lot more lately, he seems to love it. he's explored every room with a head bob as well. He's also going under his hide to sleep around 4pm. I do not know why i turn his light off around 6 or 7 when it starts to get dark outside. Anyone have any idea on whats going on with him. thanks so much. ~ Leeann
Hi Leann....it sounds like a classic case of " spring fever". He is just about breeding age and most likely his hormones are causing this behavior as breeding season approaches.
Ok great! thanks for that info. I have a background on the back of my 40 gallon tank of a desert, lots of sand and sand hills. He's constantly glass surfing on that back side like he wants to dig. And I have a repti carpet, no sand or substrate. I have both sides of the tank covered with a lite blue in color paper. And the temps are correct in the tank. He also goes under his hide around 4pm in the afternoon. It doesn't get dark till 7pm. Is that normal too?
You're welcome. And yes, all normal behavior, especially for young energetic dragons who would be on the move in the wild, occasionally going under branches or in crevices.
He is probably just getting hormonal. If he`s glass surfing, than he is challenging his reflection. My beardie used to do that when he was still alive.
I know, it can be distressing to watch them act this way, running like crazy, bobbing, while not eating much. The males are notorious for this though.
If he is going to sleep a little early, he may be slightly brumating but not fully. Is he maintaining his weight so far?
