Not sure if this belongs here or in behavior so hear me out and if I need to move it or delete it I will. But I’ve noticed this lately and want to see if I’m alone here. Every year my boy slows down and eats less in the summer. the whole semi brumation thing folks talk about. He chills in his hide or on the cool side of his tank, and barely eats any veggies, only goes after bugs. I’ve brought this up with my vet every year and every year she has not concerns so that’s not my worry.

Normally he starts going back to normal around late October, having started the brumation ish thing in late June or july. And will slowly start acting normally over the necmxt month or two until being all better by new years. Where he’ll be until June or July comes back around.

But lately I’ve noticed an odd pattern with how he’s getting better this year? He’s clearly doing better. Basking, eating veggies, moving a lot more, just the other day I let him out in my room to run around he had so much energy. But only some days. And it seems like it’s on a schedule?? I don’t know how else to explain.
On Mondays he’ll be fine, and he’ll stay fine until Thursday. Where he’ll get up first thing in the morning, and walk over to the cool side of his tank and stay there for the rest of the day, and then in the afternoon he goes back to his hammock where his basking lamp is, and falls asleep there. Then on Friday he does the same thing, but stays on the cool side all weekend. No veggies, moving around a bit. But staying on the cool side. And then on Sunday afternoon/ Monday he’s back to being fine.
The exact days vary but this has been the basic structure for all of November, I only noticed because I’m in college and one of my classes is specifically on Saturday. And I noticed myself nervous about that class, not because of my grade, but because Alex is always having one of his “bad days” when I go and I always spend the whole class worrying about him.
Does anyone else’s dragon recover from brumation like this? I got worried maybe he was too cold, since my area has been really cold lately, but his temps in his tank are good, 98 f basking area, low 80’s Cool end. I thought it was the temps because he seemed more active on Wednesday when I had my heater on in our room. But when I left it on half the day on Thursday he barely moved.
I know he always takes his time going back to normal. But I’m just worried. He has no other signs of being too cold. And I have a CHE in his tank keeping his temps where they need to be, as well as a thermostat attached to his setup to make sure things don’t get too toasty. But I think I’m just paranoid after he got an URI back in march because I didn’t have his temps as under control. (He was largely being cared for by my family at the time due to courseload.) so I think now that it’s getting cold again, I’m worried it’ll happen again. Even though I’m going through a lot more trouble to keep him from going through that again. Any insight would be appreciated. Sorry again if this isn’t the right forum. I’ll be happy to put it somewhere more appropriate. But since it pertains to his eating habits and such I thought here was best.

Please go over the UVB your using coil or a long tube fixture-- how old is the UVB and where do you have it placed? The CHE is the only heat element in the tank? How are you getting the surface basking temps? A digital probe thermometer should be used they are the most accurate?

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
