My five month old baby beardie has started eating less. It has been very warm and sunny here, so I took him outside a couple of times for no more than 30 minutes each day for some real uv. He is still active, and stands at his doors to get out and love to snuggle with me and run around the living room under close supervision.
But he has almost stopped eating since being outside. He has cut down to only 8-12 dubias sometimes at a feeding. I hand feed his veg every day, and he has slowed down on that as well.
I'm concerned because I noticed that his fat pads are diminishing. He also has adeno, so I'm not sure if this is just a flare up or not.
Reptisun t8 10.0 inside the tank, basking spot 103-113 degrees, cool side 79 degrees.
Any one have any ideas?
It might just be a plateau in his growth. Their appetite comes and goes in cycles. Have you been tracking his weight? That's a good indicator of overall health. If not, I'd start keeping a log so you can watch the trends. It's a good sign that he's active though. Usually if they aren't feeling well they will act more lethargic along with weight loss and loss of appetite.
Yes. I have been tracking his weight. I weigh him once a week, and tomorrow is weigh in day. I didn't know that they could plateau on growth at times. Thanks for the info.
I wondered about the temps being too warm too, and a week ago I was changing it up and lowering his basking spot trying to be sure the temps were good.
Weigh in today showed a loss of 1 gram. But he seemed to want a few more dubias. 9 this morning and 15 this evening. About 4 or 5 sticks of squash just after noon.
