    Introducing Morris

Wow. I think it's great that you're planning on taking care of a beardie for your class. To make your life a little easier, maybe you could get a sterilite container to feed him in and have one of your students be responsible to get in a little early each day and feed him before school and...

Welcome to the forum. I've only been here a couple weeks and I'm a new owner myself and I have to say -- this is the best place by far to get answers about these wonderful little guys!

    new to beardies

Welcome to the forum. I know beardies are usually pretty smart about regulating their temperatures and it might be that she was just sleeping. It should be okay to leave that plant in there though -- most people set up a den for their beardies to cool off in just in case they get too hot.

I'm new, and so are my beardies!

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your fantasy/sci-fi series! As for your beardies, I'm sure you'll be a great parent. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions you have. Everyone here has been great to me since I got my beardie and it seems like I'm living on the forum and reading...

    Noob!

How many months before you can get a larger enclosure for him? When I bought my beardie, I was planning on getting a 40 or 55 gallon aquarium for him w/i four months. You might want to think about how quickly he'll grow and check around to see if you can get a long 15 gallon aquarium so he'll...

    Brand-new beardie and owner

Okay, here's a pic of my baby (whom my bf dubbed "Izzard") and a picture of his enclosure. I was very scared when I got home and saw that he wasn't moving and was just sitting in the hottest spot of the tank with his eyes closed. Fortunately, he roused a little when we put some crickets in...

    Brand-new beardie and owner

Okay, I have another question -- does the basking light have to provide light or can I use a ceramic heater instead and get a UVA/UVB light to light the terrarium overall?

    Brand-new beardie and owner

Thank you for your advice, Bianca and Ozzysmom. As I mentioned earlier, I'll stop by the petshop and pick up some crickets on my way home and I'll be sure to ask for the pinhead size. The other worms you mention -- are those usually hard to find in pet stores? I really don't think my...

    Brand-new beardie and owner

I feel awful. I did some cursory research on beardies and didn't see anything about sand or calci-sand being bad for them -- everything I read prior to going to the pet shop recommended sand so the beardie could dig. Later on today I'll stop by the petshop and get some reptile carpet and more...

    Brand-new beardie and owner

I can probably raise his basking spot up by adding more sand to the cage. I'm measuring the temps with a stick on the side thermometer. I'm using a 75 watt bulb that was recommended to me by the reptile specialist at the pet store. I'm starting to think I should've gotten a 100 watt bulb...

    Brand-new beardie and owner

I just got my first beardie earlier this evening, and am housing him in a temporary 20 gallon enclosure with fine sand as substrate. I'm a little concerned because I've had the tank set up with the under tank heater and the basking lamp for an hour now, and the cage temperature is only up to...
