    UVB light placement help

I've always heard that heat and UVB should overlap, and that UVB should be 2/3 of the tank... or full length of the tank is OK IF you have hides/cover so the dragon can control their temp and uvb gradients. And yes, mount the UVB inside the screen. Not sure about the fixtures. I have the...

Dragon wants out of his tank?

Can you post a photo of the tank? That might help us, too. For an adult beardie 3x2 is quite small. That might be adding to the antsiness. So to be clear, you're using the black heat lamp at night, during the day the black heat lamp and and a T8 for uvb mounted outside the screen?

I'm not sure I'm taking proper care of my beardie

OK, so it's your opinion/experience. With those numbers thrown out there it seemed like a fact, so that's why I was thrown off. It's a little tricky to base specific numbers like that without good science behind it. I'm honestly not trying to be argumentative, but there is so much anti-loose...

    Bathing question

If they drink in the bath, yes. If they poop everytime, it's kind of counterproductive, though.

I'm not sure I'm taking proper care of my beardie

I'm so happy you made some diet and UV changes! The heat temps and UV light are important things in order to have them process their food best and not get an impaction. There are people that do a topsoil/sand mix but husbandry has to be on point. I would say to be sure that you are not using...

Kale is not bad for bearded dragons.....

Cool! We eat a lot of kale so almost always have it in the house. I haven't fed it to Calvin yet because of all of the warnings but now I'll mix it into the rotation this week.

    UPDATE: Clay and Gizmo!

I'm sorry, it's hard to be limited by a parent when it comes to the care of an animal. If your one dragon is already a foot and a half, how can your dad think it's OK for him to live in a 20 gallon? It's barely bigger than he is. :( I think that should be your priority right now since he's...

Advice? Bearded dragon in horrible living conditions.

Even with good information he won't make changes? Sorry, but what an *******. This is a living creature. :( I'd definitely try to get it from him and rehome if you can't keep him. And honestly I wouldn't be worried about losing a friend who doesn't seem to be empathetic enough to properly care...

Securing / placement of temp probes

OK, I have the cool side setup a couple inches above the substrate on the furthest away part from the basking lamp. But I just can't do the basking side correctly or he'll be laying right on it (and I'm sure constantly knock it off). Here's his basking spot. ;) (ISN'T HE CUTE?) The hottest...

Securing / placement of temp probes

Securing basking temp probes... How do you do it, and where do you put it so you're getting good temps but it's not in the way of them basking / they don't lay on it? And where exactly do you put the cool side probe? My basking area is a branch, not a piece of rock. Bonus points for photos!

    Bathing question

They don't really need to be bathed unless they're dirty from dragging themselves through poop. So I'd wait until he's more comfortable with handling. They don't absorb water through their skin, and encouraging poops through baths can actually be dehydrating.

Planning to get a dragon, i have an unusual question

Can you get an adult instead of a baby? That will help with the feeding issue, since they eat more salad than bugs. You could put a salad in the cage before you go to sleep. Those eye mask things work well for keeping things dark when you're sleeping, too. My husband used to use one when he...

    Plantation soil mixed with sand?

There are quite a few people that use a soil/sand mix. But the dragon has to be 100% healthy and your set up has to be on point. What are your basking temps, and what type of UVB do you have?

    Lamp fell on Kevin!

Happy to hear he's doing well! I think he'll like the dubias. I prefer dubias myself. Even though they're roaches, they look more like pill bugs, they don't bite, they don't climb, they are silent, and if they get out they can't reproduce in your house LOL.

Brand new beardie owner that is very concerned!!!!

I think the black beard can also be a sign of stress, which she's undergone a lot of lately. I agree getting to a reptile vet would be ideal and get a fecal done to check for parasites. Have you read the info in here re: lighting and temperatures, etc? What is her setup like now that you've...

    Lamp fell on Kevin!

I would try to not over-analyze everything. Even a human with a broken leg would be all screwy right now. His behavior should not be expected to be normal. You're doing a great job and obviously care for him deeply! I don't see why you couldn't be holding him as long as you can be sure he...
