    New Beardies.....Yipppeeeee!

What a difference just a week makes!! I started a new thread in the "General" discussion and posted pics from today. I just can't believe these are the same beardies we got just a week ago. Check out the new pictures: http://www.beardeddragon.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=38580

    New Beardies.....Yipppeeeee!

Well we've had them just 48 hours and the change in them is unbelievable. The UBV is bringing out both their colors. they actually both have orange in the. They have both gobbled down crickets like there's no tomorrow and both ate half a dish of salad today (something they've never had)...

    New Beardie owner here

Looks pretty good! I would be careful with that bulb though. Unless it's a mercury vapor, I'm pretty sure it's not providing enough UVB. Some regular bulbs will say UVB, but it's only minute amounts. UVB is important for all beardies, but especially for babies. They need it to help...

    New Beardie owner here

Sounds like your off to a good start. Congratulation on the new beardie. You talk about lights, but I didn't see anything about types of lights. I just wanted to be sure you knew they not only need a heat source, but must also have a UVB light. Indoor lighting doesn't provide the same stuff...

    New Beardies.....Yipppeeeee!

The new beardies are home :blob5: Boy am I glad we didn't wait til tomorrow afternoon to get them! The poor things don't look too bad considering their living conditions, but it was much worse than I'd expected. We walked in and they had them both in the 10 gallon tanks on the living room...

    New Beardies.....Yipppeeeee!

I think they are very nice too. They're not what I was expecting from the way they described them, but their color really doesn't matter. I'm just glad they didn't look terrible in the pictures. I think with a little TLC and a good UVB light, they will be gorgeous in a couple weeks...

I'm getting 2 new beardies Saturday afternoon!! A female that's 15" and a male that's 13". For those of you following the story from the general topic (http://www.beardeddragon.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=37785), I finally got the pictures (scroll to the bottom to see). I'm still so excited...

Looking good! You do need to get that basking temp back up to about 110F (not over 115F) though. All beardies, little guys especially, need those higher temps to aid them with digestion. Sorry your Izzard didn't eat his greens after your hard work  When they are little, this will...

It would make sense to me that you could use the ceramic heat emitter if you already have a UVB bulb, but I'm gonna need help on this one. It's actually something I've wondered about myself. Help....anyone?

    hi

Usually feeding pinkies is not recommended. Sometimes if you have a gravid female needing extra nutrients or an adult beardie recovering from malnutrion, it can be helpful though. In feeding pinkies you run the risk of impaction. Also, they are high in fat, and can cause fatty liver disease...

I know there are some that offer a wide variety, but a lot of people just feed crickets and salad. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think feeding just crickets will hurt your beardie at all. As for the roaches, I certainly understand. It would be so much cheaper...

    Questions about my baby..

Chicken wire might not be the best to use. It can sometimes have sharp edges and can scrape, cut, and hurt your beardie. Also, wouldn't the holes be easy for your little one to climb through? Home depot sells some stuff that is covered in a black material. It's a lot like screen, but the...

Bianca gave you some good advice. Don't feel bad about the sand. Almost all pet stores give out bad or wrong informations. We're just glad you found this forum. The care sheets are good, but the people here are great! I would not use any sand or particulate substrate for a baby. It is...
