I'm blaming the difference on the fact that it is a cheap infrared gun from Lowe's. I have one of the nice expensive ones but cannot find it. So could the probe be getting hotter just because it's in the direct path of the lamp and is black? so maybe the black is absorbing heat more? IDK.. but...

On the basking spot, the infrared gun is showing 93 and probe is showing 110. Which can I trust? I checked both with a glass of ice water and both were 32.something.
