    Issues continue, lots of questions.

Little Beardie passed away today. I couldn't give up on him, kept up with the routine until the end. I noticed his tongue turning yellow a day or so ago - so looks like ultimately kidney or liver failure took him out. I learned a lot through this process. I never got the test done for Adeno...

    Issues continue, lots of questions.

Sorry for the lack of updates. The visit to the vet didn't go well. She actually recommended euthanasia... his behavior of avoiding warmth, not eating on his own, and no weight gain, combined with inability to properly articulate movement illustrated to her that he has given up on trying to...

    Issues continue, lots of questions.

Well, ultimately I'd like the test because he simply doesn't seem to be improving in terms of his movement. Something isn't right. His attitude seems good, but if I'm being honest with myself, he's not really improving. It doesn't seem like the treatment given is working. Right now, he's...

    Issues continue, lots of questions.

No real updates. He's the same... can barely move but seems alert and aware. I'm taking him back to the vet Friday to investigate the Adenovirus possibility, and I suppose we'll go from there. Wish I had more to tell.

    Issues continue, lots of questions.

Well, thinking back, he did have a very upright posture when basking but I don't think it was full-blown stargazing. However, most of the other symptoms match. Inability to articulate his limbs, can't support his weight, no weight gain, no appetite, "fluid" buildup in his abdominal cavity, and...

    Issues continue, lots of questions.

Just did a quick check on him before bed. He was asleep on his back :( He's still alive, I did flip him back over. He was ok at lights out.. I hope it wasn't another seizure. Sigh... really worried now.

I'm trying, and it seems like things are going well... But I saw something today that has me quite concerned... he rolled around the tank as if having a seizure. At first I thought it was just him trying to stand and falling over, but he did 2-3 rolls. Now I'm starting to think Adenovirus...

    Issues continue, lots of questions.

Thanks Drache. Doing my best to minimize things so he has the basics accessible to him. Have to really bring things down to his level since he struggles to walk and can't climb right now. Lovmybeardie, he's doing as well as one could expect I suppose. His demeanor is really good considering...

That's probably my phone camera saturation etc... Hot side gets to 107 in the basking spot. Cool side tops out at ~84. It's in the high 70s-low 80s under the hide. Around the basking spot gets into the upper 90s. Temps taken with IR temp gun.

So I continue updating things. Hopefully not adding to his stress. I added a reflector to the T8, my T5 is still on the way, apparently some issues getting it in from overseas caused a delay. In the meantime the reflector should help with how I had it set up so I can direct the angle a bit...

    Issues continue, lots of questions.

Hmm, I do not. It was a bit of information overload, I suppose. I'm taking him for a follow-up after he goes through the calcium I got, in about another week. I can find out then and follow up.

I understand. You do have to be careful with vets and reptiles. The first vet we visited did not specialize in exotics, it wasn't a great scenario actually. Over the phone, the tech told me they could see Beardie, but when I got there he said he no longer did exotics but would help if he...

    Issues continue, lots of questions.

AHBD - yes, he's been getting 30 mins or so of sun daily. SLDragon - It's not necessarily "pre" MBD as much as a "type" of MBD (she referred to it as NSHP), basically he's in the process of consuming bone calcium for organ function, causing spinal collapse, but not yet to the point of rubberjaw...

    Issues continue, lots of questions.

The basking platform is gone now, he literally cannot climb... anything. The tank is completely empty except for the hide. The bottom is tile though, so maybe that could be an issue? I could try a piece of 1/4" ply or something int here. The IR heat gun puts the basking spot (on the tile)...

    Issues continue, lots of questions.

She said xrays would be inconclusive on a lizard his size (bones too small, wouldn't show on the xray) and couldn't draw blood for the same reason (cannot collect a large enough sample). He's only 12g, so those options are limited. I haven't done any intervention as of yet, I try to leave him...

    Issues continue, lots of questions.

So, the drama continues. He isn't wanting to keep warm, moving out of the basking area and staying on the cool side most of the day. Today his poop basically just looked like Critical Care... came out the same as it went in. I'm worried he may not be able to efficiently regulate his...

    Issues continue, lots of questions.

SLDragon - no "formal" diagnosis, vet said pre MBD brought on by malnutrition. His eating habits were most likely brought on by a severe mouth infection. The vet really worked with me, we went over pics of the enclosure, his habits before the problems began, etc. Derz - thanks for the words...

    Issues continue, lots of questions.

He's back home today. I wish I could say things have improved but he's still in pretty much the same state. While he "seems" to have more strength in his little legs, he still very much lacks control of his limbs. He can't really climb, or even control where he's going very well. His...

    Issues continue, lots of questions.

Guys, thanks so much for the support. There aren't many people you can talk to about a sick lizard :) Most of my friends/family think I'm nuts going to all the trouble and spending all the $$ on a baby I've only had for a few weeks. I waited years until I felt I had the means to take care...

    Issues continue, lots of questions.

Well, Beardie comes home tomorrow. The vet said he's a fighter, but so far his back legs have not responded to treatment. His mouth has healed nicely and he may be able to take food a bit easier. She did say that she felt as though he could recover, which is great news. Oddly, she...
