New Here! With a question about Dubia

well I did say "usually" not "always" didn't really mean to offend anyone. I was mostly talking about German cockroach infestations, not american cockroach. I'm from the south, Mississippi actually, I know the big flying American cockroaches can get in the most spotless houses. most people do...

New Here! With a question about Dubia

my wife was terrified of roaches. it took a lot of research and showing her how much better it would be for our dragon (her dragon). finally I just ordered some dubia nymphs about 1/2-2/4" and showed her. she still wouldn't touch them for a while. I would catch and put in a small container and...

    Bearded Having greens issues

:D some times mine won't eat greens til I sprinkle calcium dust on it. try experimenting different greens. the breeder had mine only on collards which he ate but when I introduced turnip greens he really seemed to enjoy it more. also squash (butternet, zucchini, chayote) cut into slivers was a...

    Bearded Having greens issues

110-114*F is a bit on the hot side. he should be good with one that's 103 but he could be overheating. what are the other temps (cool side, night, etc)? do you have any of those colored night lights? what sort of uvb? lights can really have adverse effects on feeding/appetite.

    Roach Sale

my bad, thebin that killed them was Sterilite. I moved the living into a glass 10ga like my dubia are in and no more deaths. it doesn't matter how much you clean some of the plastic ones. its the material they are made of that's toxic to insects.

    Very Confused...

yea that sucks they pretty much dumped unwanted males on you. good food for an adult dragon but not cool for starting a colony. I'm sure they weren't cheap either. what I did was buy 25 extra large nymphs from www.dubiaroaches.com, they took about a month to molt and become adults, roughly...

    Very Confused...

where did u order them from? and did u specify genders or just order adults? either way sending all males seems like a pretty shady thing to do.

    New Beardie not eating much.

you really need to try to get over your bug fears if you are going to keep reptiles. dragons need a balanced, varied diet and won't do very good on just crickets or pellets or any one thing. if u look at it as what's good for the beardie and insects definitely can't harm u and its not really...

    New Beardie not eating much.

like some one else said, get rid of night time colored lights, if its too cool (under 65f) get a ceramic heat emitter bulb. and u need the reptisun 10.0 fluorescent tube, not coil. also have u dusted crickets with calcium powered? sometimes mine will only eat greens if they have the dust. also...

    Greens

i buythem from www.dubiaroaches.com all the time with no problem. I think 1000 is $25 shipped but u can get 100 for $12. they ship out of Kansas and I get them in 2-3 days in west Texas. usually put some boiled soft veggies in the container with them and make them even fatter in less than a week.

the bsf larva can live in the fridge for weeks so unless you're sub-zero temps they should be fine.

    Dubia vs Turkistan roaches

we always smash the Turk's heads before getting them out BC they are very fast. they also look like roaches even as nymphs where dubia nymphs could be mistaken for some type of beetle. I would advise being extra cautious with the turks and have them with a secure lid and a container that can't...

    Dubia vs Turkistan roaches

I'm currently raising both dubia (Blaptica dubia) and Turkistan (Blatta lateralis) for my beardie. From what I've seen the turks are just as good and waaay cheaper than dubia. They also are much softer, hardly any shell really. None seem to escape, they are in a plastic critter keeper. I haven't...

    Baby dragon treats

http://www.dubiaroaches.com has all sizes dubia but also has red runner roaches. they are cricket sized and have higher meat:shell ratio than dubia. they are also much cheaper, 200 for $17.80 shipped. this is a much better staple diet than crickets, no smell, live longer, cleaner, dont carry...

    BSF care

uric acid build up. it would happen with roaches and crickets also I would imagine. basically don't feed feeders things you would feed your dragon, ie raw beef, chicken, seafood. http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s12010-011-9530-6...

    BSF care

[u]they usually eat everything completely. I change it out if it starts spoiling. when I got large bsf larva a few turned black but he eats them anyway. medium larvae all got big and were eaten before any pupated. my dragon eats up to 30 at a time so they don't stick around too long. you can...
