    Questions about my Dubia setup

Hello All, I was looking for some insight on my Dubia setup. I just recently started my small colony about a month ago. I have been trying different things with heat and still cannot get it too cozy in there. I am running a 27 gallon plastic tub that I modified the lid for ventilation...

Issue with Dubia roach bin!! Help!

Cut a hole and glue some screen in there. I ran into this same issue with crickets when I first started keeping them in bulk and it was horrid with just holes. Once I added a screen, it worked a ton better!

Questions about setting up dubia colony

I got a 29gallon bin last night and a 10-20 gallon UTH and doesnt seem to be heating it enough. I let it sit all night and only saw about 75* this morning with a laser thermo right on the plastic where its stuck. I ordered a larger one today for a 30-40gal tank to see if that does any better

    Putting tile down

I had 6x6 slate tiles and they were a pain. I now got two 18" tiles and cut them down a little and work much better. I did not find anything that was more textured. Maybe Ill try to find something else soon. They seem to do ok on them though. Cleaning is much easier

    Dragons together

GO on Bloobanks site and watch the video of the larger dragons eating anoles and scorpions. Then imagine what the older one would do to the babies. Very likely no bueno I cant even keep my two in the same room. They freak out too much even seeing eachother across the room and had to seperate them.

tips for getting vivi out easier

Still young? If so give it time. My male we got younger and he was all over the place at first. Took a good few weeks to calm down and get acclimated to being held and more importantly being caught to pick him up

    outside time questions

I had my guys out over the weekend and was likely just pushing 80. My female seemed to enjoy it more than my male, but they seemed fine.

hiding from UVB, but not heat

deffinately go lower wattage. You dont want to have to dim them down too much

    New Strange Behaviour

I just call their bluff and pick them up if they give me attitude at all. My new female I got is older and is still a little skittish sometimes. If she gets puffy I just pick her up and she calms down. I would let him chill a little and if it doesnt get better, handling may help. I have been...

    Not basking?

Maybe excitement of a nice new house? Little guys tend to be a little squirmish from my experience when I got my male from a younger age. Maybe he just wants to be active. I would get him some stuff to climb on too. He would love it! See how he is in a few days though and maybe let him climb a...

hiding from UVB, but not heat

I am actually in somewhat a similar issue right now. I have come to the conclusion that I give up on using the hide/fake rocks for basking. They just retain too much surface temp and causing these wild temp fluctuations. I put the branches on the basking spot now about the same height in hopes...

    outside acclimation

I just let my guys hang out on me outside initially a few times and let them take it in and get over any issues. After doing that a few times I let them on the grass and let them run around and they seem pretty ok with it. My newer older female I just got who has likely never seen the outside...

    Lighting Help for Newbies (:

So I just setup my girls tank last night with what I had already. I may upgrade the Walmart fixtures in the near future, but at the moment I needed to use them to get UVB awhile. Now I got this idea from another thread and just made it work with my setup. Since I mounted the fixture on the...

3 month beardie only eats 3 crickets a day :s

He is still young yet. Give him time. I would maybe cut the tank size down or start feeding in a smaller feeding enclosure and make sure he can see them well. Once he can seem them and gets interested he will start to go nuts chasing them!

2 year old beardie from a shop that has a bad rep

Give him time to adjust. We just got another one the other day and she isnt overly happy at the moment. She was very calm and loving in the store, but still getting settled at my house. I think my younger male across the room is causing her to be a little anxious too, but even he was skittish as...

Is buying a pre-owned beardie a good idea?

Personally I would only get a "preowned" one if you were able to see its environment first and talked to the prev owner to see how they took care of it. Make sure the animal looks alert and can't hold it's body up and no deformities unless you are ok with taking the chance. Older ones are likely...

    Lighting Help for Newbies (:

What uvb fixtures do you reccomend then? All the zoomed branded ones are above the screen ones and multiple posts on here state this will filter out too much uvb. Also leaving no room to keep white light and basking heat on the same end of the tank since the hoods are soo bulky. Also what is...

    Lighting Help for Newbies (:

Now onto my own lighting woes. I have been using 5.5" dome's for about 6-7 months now with what I thought to be with success. I got a temp gun this weekend and started playing and found the hammock in the basking spot was not holding any heat. I put the hide/basking piece we originally used in...

    Lighting Help for Newbies (:

The fixture you would be looking for at Walmart is the Lights Of America fixture. Its a pain to find on the site. I just picked up 2 24"s for my 2 40 gallon tanks this weekend. They were $8.97 a piece if that helps. They have 18"s also. I use the Repti sun 10.0 with no problems I can see. I...
