Concerned about Slim - possible yellow fungus.

Update time! I'm doing the daily baths and cream as the vet prescribed, except tonight I skipped the bath to avoid the wound getting too moist/soft. The cream definitely seems to be helping although it's slow-going: Some of the yellowish scales are slowly starting to flake off and the more...

Yeah... I do my best to keep them off it, but sometimes they manage to sneak on when I'm not paying attention! Unfortunately I can't close the door to keep them out because the room Slim's tank is in is also the room with the cat stuff.

Just saw it, thank you! I have to find something VERY sturdy because unfortunately my cats like to sit on the tank to warm their butts. ( ) So I don't want them to accidentally knock it loose and then poor Slim gets another injury.

Yes, the vet advised baths. I was surprised about that but he seemed to think it's a good idea. A daily bath, pat dry, then apply the cream. I have crickets and megaworms but he seems uninterested in both, and has never been very interested in his veggies. I'm trying not to force feed him...

Thanks for following up Tracie! I don't know for sure that it's yellow fungus... we will know when the test comes back. He also didn't mention scraping away the scales and I'm hesitant to do that myself and wind up making it worse. We did have the wound bandaged but it resulted in it being...

Thank you. I really appreciate all of your help. I will keep this thread updated as I care for him. If I don't see significant improvement with the Silvadene, I'm going to ask the vet about continuing the honey treatment. But for now I just want to see how he does. I cleaned his tank...

Concerned about Slim - possible yellow fungus.

Hi all. Slim pooped this morning and I had to change the bandage, and unfortunately the fresh skin that grew over the wound was so moist from the honey that it sloughed off. It was just hanging by a thread of skin so I wrapped it up in a dry bandage and brought him to the vet. I just got out...

Yes, we are keeping it wrapped at the moment. His appetite seems to be ok, he didn't eat on Monday but that could have just been because he ate a decent amount over the weekend.

Yay! Such good news! I was hoping that was just scabbing.

Concerned about Slim - possible yellow fungus.

Update time! Just changed his bandage... Sunday's picture: Tonight's picture: It looks like there's improvement? It seems a bit puffy, but I'm wondering if that's just because some of the extra skin is a bit loose... it looks like it's not sitting totally flush against his flesh just...

No, we are very gentle with him! He seemed okay this morning... we are going to change the bandage tonight and post a new picture when we do.

Not long. Maybe a few minutes? Like 2 to take the bandage off and 2-3 to put the fresh ones on? I make sure that I have everything laid out beforehand.

Hmm, now I'm a bit concerned. I came home to find Slim with a slightly dark beard. Not black, but darker than usual. And when I picked him up out of his tank he seemed really uncomfortable and started puffing his beard out at me. I wonder if he's in a bit of pain? I did give him the pain...

Good idea, thank you. I regret letting them take him back into the exam room at the other vet. Who knew what they were doing to the poor thing--he'd come out with THE blackest beard I've ever seen! It's so tough because I want to be righteous and angry at the other vet, but they were nice...

I don't know if they removed the pore itself... They removed the necrotic skin, but it was around a pore so who knows... He isn't on antibiotics but I'll ask the new vet about that on Wednesday. He ate another large hornworm yesterday so I think he's doing well! He's never very interested in...

Yes, we are so relieved! Thank you both so much for your continued help! Our baby may have been in such a bad place without you. Now that you mention it, it does look a little puffy? But maybe that's just from the extra skin that came in while healing... Or do you think it's something to be...

Hi Ellen & AHBD! I just changed Slim's bandage and I am SO relieved. I think he's healing! The honey was a bit sticky so I did give him a quick rinse with a light betadine solution. Then I dabbed him dry with some gauze and paper towel, applied raw honey to fresh gauze and taped him up...
