Help me please!!, a New Reg. User with New Beardie

Mine only really started eating greens a short while ago. I put their salad in the viv before I go to work, and no other food until I get home (when they get their worms). I also put a little water under the salad in the dish, both to keep the greens fresher a bit longer, and in the hope that...

Like sands through the hourglass - *Pic heavy*

Hi Laura! Got pics of the whole setup, especially for you :) I change the interior quite often, so in some of the old pics there are hammocks, in others a little house hide-away, but these are the current pics. Angie's viv: Flippie's viv (dont't pay attention to the dial thermometer, I have...

Did someone say "Spike" (although my name is Flippie...)?

    Prickly pear cactus question.

Hi there fellow South African! It is quite a predicament getting food for our babies out here, especially in winter! So, here is what I do: pick up a pack of Herb Salad at Pick 'n Pay, take out most of the lettuce, which leaves me with the following: Butter lettuce (only a little bit) Cos...

I'm not sure if the question is directed at me or the OP, but I'm using a probe.

    Sick Beardie

I am aware of the 105 Fahrenheit guide, but my guess (and experience with both my own two and those of friends), the humidity or type of heat makes a difference. If I take the basking spot anything over 35 degrees Celcius they stay on the cool side, gape permanently and tend to dehydrate very...

    Sick Beardie

I'm also from South Africa and have noticed my dragon also slowed down. I would however try to get your basking temp down to about 32. Also, bearded dragons aqen't illegal here, just not very well known. I would also swop your current substrate for tile or reptile carpet.

Only a pleasure! Feel free to ask - it's what we're here for :) It does help to have contact with people in the same country as you though!

Hi Jacqui! Another South African - that's good to see! Welcome to the forum. You will find a lot of information on these boards. As you only got Rango yesterday, he/she is most likely suffering from relocation stress to start with. They go through a period of anything between a few days...

    eye bulging

It does look freaky! They are just getting the old skin loose by stretching - I've been watching mine like a hawk today as she is also about to shed and I don't want to miss the bulging :)

    eye bulging

Hi there, as far as I know the eye bulge normally happens when they're about to shed - nothing to worry about!

Full time work + Bearded Dragon care

I might be lucky then - I haven't had a problem yet! There are some evenings that I swop bath and feeding times around, but they seem to be sooooooo lazy in the bath after they've eaten!

Full time work + Bearded Dragon care

That sounds familiar. After moving their furniture around last night, Angie showed her complete displeasure with my arrangement:

You know you're living with beardies when...

Wait, what? You mean to tell me that's not normal? When said husband doesn't ask about the pillows, only high-steps and carefully watch the floor, until you tell him the beardie's been back in the viv for about an hour already.

    the tough love approach

OHHHH yes, I almost forgot to mention, most beardies are usually not too keen on eating their salad while you watch!

    beardies and mirrors

I recently tried the experiment with both of my beardies (not at the same time), but they both were oblivious to the other beardie in the mirror. However, they were both convinced that they have to be able to get to the other side of the room through this strange looking glass... Not bothered...

    the tough love approach

Try putting a whole leaf of greens in her viv. I usually shred the veggies and leaves for mine, without much success. I read about another member on here who were surprised that her beardie immediately went for a whole leaf and tried it - it worked! :blob5:
