    Switching to mostly green diet?

Hi, My male beardie is 10 months old, about 18 inches long and around 400 grams. He used to eat a small salad every day as well as two feedings of dubia roaches per day - most recently 4 - 6 adult male dubias 2 times per day. In the past two weeks his appetite has changed and I'm lucky to get...

    tiles?

I used slate tiles that are made for use indoors - like kitchen floors. Got them at Home Depot, a couple dollars a piece. They are heavy, feel like ceramic on the sides, but are textured on the top and sort clay-like on the bottom. I have the textured side facing up in the viv. Hope that helps...

Can anything be done for him?

OK, so the good news is he's basking now and his color is good. I gave him a bath and kept him in there for a whole 6 minutes, which is 5 1/2 minutes longer than I usually can keep him in there. No poop. BUT, when I put him back in the tank I started looking again at the rubber gasket. I...

Can anything be done for him?

Thanks for your replies... My inclination is to take him to the vet, however last Monday I lost my job and I just can't incur that expense this week - especially if they're just going to tell me that if it doesn't pass they'd have to operate or something. I will try the bath... he had his...

Can anything be done for him?

OK, this is very strange, but I think my dragon ate a 3 inch rubber gasket. I feed his roaches in a traditional chrome dog dish, which has a piece of black rubber molded around the bottom edge to prevent it from sliding on the floor. It's just a normal dog dish from Petco. Last night I left...

Need advice - dragon seems unwell

Yeah, I think shedding could be a contributing factor too - seems like he just finished and he's ready to start again. He does get grumpy when he sheds, LOL!

Need advice - dragon seems unwell

Thanks for the advice Mattie. He's doing much much better today. This morning he came out when the lights came on, but still wouldn't eat. But by around 2 p.m. he ate almost all of his roaches and his salad. His color was back to normal and he was basking as usual. I've had him out of the...

Need advice - dragon seems unwell

Hi Tracie, Thanks for the reply. My bulb is only three months old, as I got it in January when I got Dengar. I ordered it from Petmountain dot com, and it seemed new. So, I'm thinking that's not the problem. The good news is that he came out of his cave to bask this morning as usual when the...

Need advice - dragon seems unwell

Any advice would be welcome... Dengar was born on 8/6/09, so he is a little over 7 months old. We have had him since January. He has been healthy and happy until today. Today he will not eat and is hiding in his cave in the dark, but with his eyes open. Husbandry - tank - 40 gallon breeder...

    Heating Dubias

Try wrapping the sides of the bin to help maintain heat... I use an old eggcrate type foam mattress pad on all four sides - it really helps. The room where I have my bin is the basement, only ambient heat from the floor above with cement floors below and cement walls. Here in CT in the winter...

    Heating Dubias

You're welcome. Another option I've seen people try, which I almost decided on, I just using another aquarium and using the traditional uth on the bottom. They tape off the outside with duct tape or electrical tape to keep all the light out of the tank so it's nice and dark, and then just use a...

    Heating Dubias

I tried UTH's also and couldn't get anything to work. So I finally broke down and got a human heating pad at Rite-Aid Drugstore. It was the store brand, a cheap one with no auto shut off. I took and extra lid from another plastic bin and put that on the floor, then put the heating pad on top of...

    First Dubias

Got mine at Rite=Aid, no auto shut off. Try the chain drug stores... Walgreens, CVS, Rite-Aid, etc. I know I couldn't find one at Walmart without auto shut off.

Lets start a topic on the best companys to order feeders fro

That's exactly why I recommend Ian!! If you email him and explain your needs, he'll figure out what you need, and give you some options. I started by ordering smalls and mediums for my six month old dragon as feeders only. Then once I realized he liked them, and I got used to seeing them, I...

What do you use under your Roach bins....

Well, I did some experimenting, and came to the conclusion that the human heating pad is by far the best method. I tried an infrared bulb on top of the tub, tried under tank heaters that were low wattage and supposedly safe for plastic, and also tried a combination of these things. The bulb...

    Another dubia question?

Roaches don't bite, and yes, you can leave them in the viv overnight. They are lousy climbers, so I use a traditional chrome dog dish - put the bugs in there and they can't climb out. My beardie eats what he wants for dinner and then eats what's left over in the morning.

What do you use under your Roach bins....

BTW, I was looking at that heating pad link to Amazon and one of the reviewers said hers spontaneously ignited and caught fire!! This does not make me feel better.... maybe a CHE???

What do you use under your Roach bins....

I'm using a human heating pad as well - it's an older one an it doesn't have auto shut-off, not sure where it came from. But I'm a little concerned about leaving it on 24/7... seems like it might be a fire hazard - I mean these things aren't designed for that kind of use. I do have it plugged...

Water Gel for Roaches - Calcium?

I've been buying water gel with calcium (Fluker's) from Petco for my roaches because I figure if my beardie needs extra calcium then the water gel will help gutload the roaches... it's not cheap though, and I'm now starting a colony, so I'll be needing more of it. Does anyone else think it's...
