    Tank 36" w x 18" deep x 16" tall >>> is this Okay?

It's working for us. Our beardie is about 5 months old. I'll probably build a new, larger viv by the time she hits a year. But that size tank is working quite well and will last us a while. HTH, Jon

Lighting and Heating for Escapé (MVB?)

Thanks for the inputs. From what I've read here in the past, the MVBs are better and I'd like to make that switch if possible. I'm aware of the distance issues and will need to build something atop my aquarium to manage that. The temp guage is an AccuRite with a black sensor/probe at the end...

Lighting and Heating for Escapé (MVB?)

This is Escapé and her viv: http://www.illzoni.com/pets/Escape/ The photos linked above show the progression of her current home, measuring approximately 18"d by 36"w by 15"h on the exterior. I believe that equates to about 38 gallons...though I could swear I'd previously figured it to be...

    Qs on Feeding Escapé

We stopped her at 67 1/4" crix. Since she hasn't been getting the right quantity of food at regular intervals I'm afraid she'll overeat if we allow it. We'll try to get her on the 3x daily routine starting tomorrow.

    Qs on Feeding Escapé

Wow! 1/4" is small! She's going to eat a LOT of these little guys.

    Qs on Feeding Escapé

Wow, that price is high compared to some others. I had just followed the previous link and chose the one with the highest rating. Since $.036 is so much cheaper than $.10, I was dumb and happy. But looking at other sources I can get them for less than $.025 each. That's great news. We'll...

    Qs on Feeding Escapé

Thanks Patrick, From your link, found crix with overnight shipping for 1000 at $35.95. We're getting 1/4". We measured Escapé's head and it's 1/2" between her eyes. If the crix last almost a month, that allows for growth without them exceeding her size. Does that seem reasonable? Can I...

    Crix can climb up Melamine???

Sounds like the melamine has some texture. You'd have to take your beardie out, but I think you could sand the melamine with some fine sandpaper and smooth out out to the point the crix could no longer climb. But that's just a guess on my part. HTH, Jon

    Qs on Feeding Escapé

I've posted a few things here about my daughters beardie Escapé. Escapé is about 3-1/2 months old, measures about 8-1/2 long and seems happy. She (we think) has regular BMs (just about every day). We've been feeding her ~20 crickets every other day. She gets an apple slice every morning...

    New Beardie Home

Jeff, Thanks very much. That mesquite had been a homemade, four-poster, log bed for our master bedroom. In our current rental, however, it doesn't fit and I've built a new platform bed with underneath storage. Pretty sure I'll run with your 'hide' advice. I like the idea of getting him as...

    New Beardie Home

New Beardie. New home. This is Escape's home. We started with just a cardboard box for a basking platform. Today I made a new basking platform (actually two) from old mesquite. Here's the cardboard box: And the upgraded mesquite: And a better view of the mesquite: Almost forgot....I...

Escapé is my daughter's young beardie. Her teacher has been breeding them for a few years and gave a batch to students this fall.

    Twitching Beardie

Thanks for the warning. I've read the same elsewhere and am confident the heater isn't too warm/hot. It's under the tank, then a layer of cardboard, then a layer of tile. It's warm to the touch--I'm guessing mid 70s.

    Twitching Beardie

Well, Escape seems fine. He didn't have a BM yesterday, but did today. He's not eating as much as I'd like, but I guess I'm just new to all of this. Thanks for all the help and encouragement!

    Twitching Beardie

Thanks for the advice. Today we got an 18inch Reptisun 10.0 (ugh...$47.99). We also mixed a bit of vegetable oil with organic applesauce and a bit of calcium powder (with D3). He was quite enthusiastic about eating it. Couldn't find an eye dropper. He nearly took the baby spoon...

    Twitching Beardie

Escape had a BM during the night. He's no longer twitching, but he's not using his rear legs. He's more alert than he was a bedtime last night, but not up to normal. I'll be buying the UVB today.

    Twitching Beardie

Dang, I wish my first post weren't for a problem... Current condition Escape is currenly laying on his tummy with his rear legs splayed backwards. He's somewhat trembling a bit just about all over. Background My daughter's teacher has been giving away young Beardies to students and my...
