Beardie Cranes neck 90 degrees and refuses to eat

Thanks to everyone for replying! I'm familiar with the wide range of opinions in here and how contradictory they can be so I don't take any one as the "law". Almost every website I have visited lists fruit as a staple food, including the ones sponsored by DVM's. What is everyone else's...

Beardie Cranes neck 90 degrees and refuses to eat

Thanks for the advice Judah'sHuman. I hope in his current condition he can wait for Fedex. I've managed to get him to lick fruit baby food laced with a Calcium supplement from my finger several times a day, but that's all he'll eat. He's pooped several times, so I don't suspect impaction...

Beardie Cranes neck 90 degrees and refuses to eat

Unfortunately, the ballast kit for the flourescent was ordered thru Fosters and Smith so returning is not so easy. And the Merc bulb would have to be ordered too, so another week minimum down the drain. I was relying on outside time to get by while setting things up, but we've had 3 straight...

Beardie Cranes neck 90 degrees and refuses to eat

I had the same thought, but the UV from the Mercury Vapor lamps is so intense it can hurt your beardie if they're closer than about 10" (at least that's what the manufacturers say), and he could climb to within that distance easily. It would fit, but my funds are not unlimited and I already...

Beardie Cranes neck 90 degrees and refuses to eat

Thanks to everyone for the information. Unfortunately, I can't mount the bulb horizontally because it won't fit. This is not your cheap glass aquarium. It's a custom made enclosure about 20 X 20 X 48 and the 24" bulb will not fit at the top. And even if it did there's no guarantee he will be...

Beardie Cranes neck 90 degrees and refuses to eat

Anyone know how long an 6-month old dragon can survive with minimal food (only water mixed with calcium power and small bits of fruit baby food)?

Beardie Cranes neck 90 degrees and refuses to eat

Haven't turned off the Zilla because I don't have the Reptisun hooked up yet. My enlcosure is more vertical than horizontal and I haven't figured out how to mount it. The 24" bulb will most likely need to go vertically along the wall. Is it imperative I turn off the Zilla because that's his...

Beardie Cranes neck 90 degrees and refuses to eat

Have had him outside in full sun for two days and while he's out there he perks up and moves around the cage, even cocks his head like he's noticing the crickets, but eats nothing. Out of desperation I put some pillbugs in with him and he immediately began chasing them, even tried to eat a few...

Beardie Cranes neck 90 degrees and refuses to eat

Several people have mentioned quantities of food like that but that would be more volume in a day than he can physically contain. He would explode! And he was never that big of an eater anyway. He would chase down 5 or 6 and then go back to basking. I'll definitely try to increase his intake...

Beardie Cranes neck 90 degrees and refuses to eat

That's all he would take and he was healthy. These were about 1 cm in size, about the distance between his eyes.

Beardie Cranes neck 90 degrees and refuses to eat

Tried to find one at Petsmart today but they only had ReptiGol. Will try Petco tomorrow. Enclosure is about 20 X 20 X 4 feet tall with multiple basking shelves and lights at top. Temp ranges from 105 at top to 80 at bottom. I had been dusting once a day (feeding twice a day) when he was...

Beardie Cranes neck 90 degrees and refuses to eat

The light fixture is a Zilla Mini Reptile Fixture with twin 9W Desert 50 compact UVB lamps which are supposed to be effective up to a foot away, but the enclosure I built is more vertical than horizontal (not an aquarium) so his proximity to the lamp is dependent on how high he climbs up the...

Beardie Cranes neck 90 degrees and refuses to eat

I've been giving him Fluker's Repta-Calcium, but apparantly he's not been getting enough UVB to process it. I've also read that if they're not getting enough UVB, the calcium can build up and become toxic so that might be contributing. By the way, thanks for the replies Kevincease!

Beardie Cranes neck 90 degrees and refuses to eat

I seem to have figured out from reading other posts that he's having seizures, and they seem to be predominantly caused by calcium deficiency. A lot of posts complain about certain types of bulbs not providing the UVB they claim, so I'll try putting him in the sun outside tomorrow. If that...

Beardie Cranes neck 90 degrees and refuses to eat

No he doesn't appear to prefer the cooler areas. He's usually either on the hot rock or on a vine under the UVB lamp. When he decides to climb he invariably falls off and frequently lands on his back like he's dizzy. He may roll over several times before he snaps out of it. But so far he...

Beardie Cranes neck 90 degrees and refuses to eat

My daughters beardie is about 6 months old and 2 days ago refused to eat. At first he was eating mealworms and crickets, then he would only take crickets, and now nothing. He shows no interest at all. Just stares like he's focused on nothing and bends his head back 90 degrees. He'll sit for...
