Discussion on light & heat efficiency

I went into detail in a reply to my thread and didn’t notice your comment until I refreshed the page. Thanks for responding so fast. I definitely agree. I won’t be doing anything that risks damaging my husbandry. I absolutely want to keep everything to the highest standard- but I’m interested...

Discussion on light & heat efficiency

So first off, some details. My enclosure has a glass front and sides, and a wooden frame and back. The current lid is a temporary mesh top, while I work on the final piece. Because I’ve just built this enclosure, Im not thinking about redesigning whole elements yet. [But in the future I think...

Discussion on light & heat efficiency

Hey again. Things have been great with Spike and his custom viv. He’s doing well. All has been fine up until a visit from my Dad (who has a degree in mechanical engineering). I’ve mentioned this before, but we live in the outskirts of the UK where the cost of living is high, and this mean...

First attempt at DIY rock background

That’s my fear lol. I can’t count how many times I’ve stupidly left the door open on his current (tempered glass) tank, and knocked into them.

First attempt at DIY rock background

Sure, I will. It’s hard to picture the finished design right now, because without the glass, it’s pretty much just a wooden frame, so I think I’ll update when I’ve slotted the glass in place, just so you can see the doors and other elements. On that note, I’ve thought it might be wise to put...

Tempered Glass. How important is it?

I will look around for plexiglass and compare it to laminate in that case. Good to know I that I shouldn’t just use it as is. Thank you for responding so quickly.

Tempered Glass. How important is it?

I mentioned this in my Custom viv thread in the DIY section, but I figure I’m much more likely to get a response here. I’d like to hear your option on using tempered glass vs un-tempered glass for a viv. All the enclosures I have owned before have been tempered, and I understand that there are...

First attempt at DIY rock background

The glass arrived a couple weeks ago. And dammnit, wrong size. My dad ordered it for me, and I guess the suggestion to double or triple check the measurements wasn’t taken. The glass guy has cut it down to the actual measurements for me now, and I should receive it in the next few days. On...

It’s been a while. Got caught up in busy life, So I haven’t had time to work on this for a while. Good news though, I changed glass manufacturer and this new guy has got it all ready in less than two weeks. Hopefully, I’ll be able to pick the glass up this week and fit it in the viv. Here’s...

Using feeder worms in compost? Self sufficiency in greens.

I’ve noticed that the morioworms/super worms I give as a treat are voracious eaters of just about anything and everything. They seem to be as effective in the decomposition of organic matter as earthworms, and I’m curious about using them in the compost I use on my veg. I know they’re sometimes...

Ah I’m afraid not. Although it sounds like you have a similar thing to what we did. Just used strips of chicken wire and weaved(?) Wove(?) the wire through the metal railings. (We were renting, so nothing could be permanent). I was fortunate to have a lazy boy who just wanted to bask in the...

Oooh that sounds like a really nice idea actually. I live in a house now but me and Spike used to live an apartment too. He LOVED the balcony so we beardie proofed the railings and let him use that space.

    Digging in rain/shower?

I don’t have an answer unfortunately, but weirdly enough, my beardie did the exact same thing when I let him try the shower. Exactly the same, except he scratched his back, and his bearded stayed orange the whole time, even though he seemed to not exactly enjoy it. Hm. -Jay

I’ve always liked this idea, but my tank is far off the floor on a sideboard. Looks like a real nice way to give your beardie a bit more space during the day. It would be great enrichment too. I do have a couple minor thoughts on it though. -To maintain correct temps and humidity inside the...
