    Dig Box Alternatives

Does anyone have some good dig box ideas that don't involve substrate? I'm trying to avoid substrate as I have carpet and expect it will get tracked around everywhere and be impossible to clean. I did try out making an alternative using hay, which seemed to work okay for my last beardie, but...

    GNT Cancer

This response is long overdue, but I choose to have Micah euthanized a few weeks ago on the 9th. At that point he had stopped eating and drinking water, and his fat pads were sunken. I felt that keeping him longer would have only prolonged his suffering. Thank you to everyone who replied and...

    GNT Cancer

So I think this is truly the beginning of the end. Micah has been refusing to eat anything solid for the last few days (I did get him some waxworms, and he looks at them like he's interested in them but then never eats them). I've been trying to syringe feed him baby food and Repta Boost, but he...

    GNT Cancer

Thanks for all the advice! I'll definitely talk to his vet about getting some sort of medication. I'll see if I can get him to eat some waxworms. I've had mixed results before. When he was much younger he snatched them up like they were candy, but when I last tried to feed some to him maybe 6...

    GNT Cancer

Micah update: Sunday I got him to eat another hornworm, and yesterday I finally convinced him to drink water. Today I got him some black cherry concentrate. He wasn't exactly happy about it lol but I did get him to drink some. He's still active and basking, but I have noticed his eyes are sunken...

    GNT Cancer

Here's some pictures of Micah. He's not currently on any medication. I'm in Texas & have a CHE in his cage, so the lowest it really will get at night it 75F. Would it help to keep him warmer? In a small win, today he ate a hornworm & a few bits of banana! They're some of his favorites and...

    GNT Cancer

Micah has recently been struggling to poop and there's been regular blood in his urate/stool. His vet ran bloodwork (I'll add the results at the end of this post) and it came back with high glucose levels. She suspects GNT. I'm considering getting an ultrasound to confirm, but Micah's current...

    Questionable Poop

Urate looks fine to me (looks like she just needed to clear out some excess liquids & didn't really have anything digested to poop out yet), but I'm no expert. I do have a bit of advice for the BSF larva, though! Or I guess a bit of personal experience to share that might help, rather. My...

Mother I Must RUN (Post-Brumation Zoomies)

So Micah finally shook off his first brumation cobwebs about two weeks ago and has decided that it is time for adventure. Let me start by saying I am not a morning person. Micah, apparently, is. Or, well. A morning dragon, I guess. Without fail sometime between 8AM and 10AM, I am awoken to...

    Ceramic heat lamp smell

In my experience & research it's pretty typical. CHE bulbs usually come with some sort of sealant/surface finish that burns off in the first couple of days of use. I'd recommend leaving it out of your beardie's enclosure until the smell fades just to be safe, but it honestly should be fine as is.

    Arcadia 12% vs. 14% in 2' Enclosure

I'm just a terrible helicopter parent honestly, so I worry, but I'll trust he's getting what he needs. 12% bulb it is!

    Polyurethane or water based polycrylic?

When I was DIY'ing my viv, I used polycrylic to seal some of miscellaneous bits. I haven't used polyurethane to compare, but in researching around supposedly polyurethane was more likely to break down under long-term exposure to UVB/heat, but nothing I ever saw was a particularly detailed or...

    Arcadia 12% vs. 14% in 2' Enclosure

I've got a 4x2x2 enclosure with the 34" 12% bulb inside the enclosure. Currently Micah's basking spot is mounted at about 12-14" below the UVB, in line with the recommended distance for that bulb as far as I know. I honestly wouldn't even consider getting the 14% since I've had no issues with...

    Basking Bulb Won't Last

Thanks for the replies! Planning on grabbing another dome soon to try out. Then to wait a month to see how long it lasts lol The dome hangs above the enclosure, so I don't think movement should be a problem. The only time I've moved it is to adjust the height when a new bulb is weaker/stronger...

    Basking Bulb Won't Last

I've had Micah for abooout 8 months now, and I've gone through probably just as many bulbs for his basking spot. I'd like to write it off as a bad brand except for the fact I've used at least 3 different brands so far. When I first set up his enclosure, before I even got Micah, I had a Zoo Med...

    New Beardie Owner Concerns

I thought I had the setup correct, but I looked into it some more. The mesh I have on my enclosure is 1/4" wire gardening mesh, (similar to chicken wire but less terrible to work with.) So I'm assuming that it doesn't quite block the same 30% that most viv screens would. My UVB fixture also has...

    New Beardie Owner Concerns

Thanks for responding! I was under the impression that 12% T5 bulbs should be placed about 12" above basking areas and could reach 18-24" before becoming ineffective. Is this incorrect? Today's progress has been 2 circkets at about 2pm and I just finished feeding another 5. The Child also ate...

    New Beardie Owner Concerns

First post, bear with me. I just bought a new beardie from Petco on Monday. First-time owner. They're (sex TBD) about 8" so I'm guessing 2-ish months. Over the past couple of days, they haven't been eating very much. I got them to eat about 5 crickets over the course of an hour yesterday, and...
