Beardie lost a lot of weight, not eating

Hiya just to report back, Sandy is eating locust again, woohoo! He is eating every other day. He's still not wanting veg but we are gut loading locusts so hopefully this will be enough to tide him over until he stops being fussy! Thanks again for your advice :)

Beardie lost a lot of weight, not eating

I meant to say mealworms!! He ate 3 locusts this morning :P :love5: :love10: !!!!!!!!!!! I think we'll stick to locusts and crickets as a treat (silent ones!). Not going through that again. The boys had also been giving him apple as a wee treat, all that has stopped now, maybe once...

Beardie lost a lot of weight, not eating

Brilliant that's good info, thanks so much for that. I'll let you know how he gets on. Straight away he sat staring at the bulb after we'd changed it!! It definitely looks much brighter. I didn't even really consider the bulb, I thought it was the waxworms. Fingers crossed! :)

Beardie lost a lot of weight, not eating

Hi, thanks, the new bulb arrived today and I've fitted it. I have the Pet Expert Bearded dragon book which I've been going by for bulbs, temperature advice etc. They say 8-12 months for replacing the bulb, so I was going by that. Why do you say it's just 6 months for the bulb? Thanks :)

Beardie lost a lot of weight, not eating

Hi, UVB is ARCADIA EURO RANGE DESERT 10%+ 38W 42IN FRP38. It's 10" from bottom of Viv. Viv is 4ftx2x2. Bulb bid Arcadia spotlight 75w and hot end is 36.3, cold end 26. We have a dual temperature electronic thermometer with a probe at hot end and another probe at cool end. He's not been sleeping...

Beardie lost a lot of weight, not eating

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I went through the lighting/heat bulb today, not sure what it is and if I'm missing something. UVB bulb is horizontal across length of viv and is low enough and is probably only just up for needing renewed. Basking site temp fine. The only change that seemed to trigger...

Beardie lost a lot of weight, not eating

Hi there, My son's 2 yo beardie has not been eating well for over a month now. He wasn't losing weight initially but I just weighed him today and he's lost 17g!! Now I'm really worried! He stopped eating properly after my son introduced some mealworms into his diet at around christmas and he...

    No poos in brumation!

Yes he likes to snooze under the paper! He doesn't seem to bother about the greenery, but I'll perhaps tuck it under itself so its not dangling, just to be safe! Thanks

    No poos in brumation!

Thanks everyone for your replies. This is a relief to us! It didn't feel 'right' waking him, but we thought that was the best thing based on article. It doesn't make sense now you explain it, but I thought it was plausible as there are other insects (ok not reptiles, but similar!) that soak...

Beware of vets giving enemas to your dragon

Hi thanks for this post. Would it be worth including this part in the Brumation Care sheets section in the links above, to reassure other keepers that are just learning? I have certainly been worrying about it a lot since my beardie has been waking up sporadically and eating some locusts and...

    No poos in brumation!

Hi, thanks for your reply! We were only giving him as bath as I read the Brumation section of the 'Care sheets and Articles' on this site which says: "...when Bearded Dragons go into brumation in the wild, it is a common practice for them to burrow under things in their environment, or to bury...

    No poos in brumation!

Hi there, Sandy our beardie is 15 months old and showed signs of going into brumation on 5th April, black beard, hissed at my son (his daddy) and was sleeping in cool end of viv a lot. As per the care sheets here, we have made sure he has a bath once a week and he has been waking up as a result...

    Tail rot recovery

OK, thanks for the reassurance! Do you think then that a lot of the youtubes out there aren't actually dealing with true tail rot? What are your thoughts on beardie probiotics? I'm wondering if it might be an idea to support his wee system through getting his tail better. Thanks
