Enclosure Temps - Avoiding Basking Spot

And, just like that, I changed out the bulb, got the basking spot to 100 +/- 1 degree and he is now under the lamp. I must say that this forum has been invaluable and I am truly appreciative of the depth of knowledge that is freely offered. James.

Enclosure Temps - Avoiding Basking Spot

I read some emissivity tables and set the gun to the closest wood I could find to Ash (I believe the main basking log is green ash), which was oak. When I measured the spot right beside the Herpstat temperature probe both the probe and PE2 were within a 1/2 to 1 degree of one another. Yes...

Enclosure Temps - Avoiding Basking Spot

First and foremost, I very much appreciate the time that you put into your response and the evidence-based approach. I did a lot of reading while setting up the enclosure and, based upon the care sheets I read, information from breeders and widely represented opinion, I thought I was where I...

Enclosure Temps - Avoiding Basking Spot

The enclosure is 48 x 24 x 24 deep and the basking lamp is in the centre of the enclosure (front to back) - the log with the 103 is against the back wall, well offset from the basking lamp. The Y-shaped log with the 110 is directly under the lamp. I have a Herpstat 4 with temp probes and I...

Enclosure Temps - Avoiding Basking Spot

Hi all, Our new 3-month old beardie arrived this past Wednesday and seems to be settling in. He is alert, active and has taken both greens and feeders (6 - 14 crickets per feeding, a few small superworms and a couple of silkworms). The one thing that has me a bit perplexed is that, based upon...

    Basking temp

I just got my new beardie yesterday, three months old as well, and he has not spent much time at all in the 109 degree basking spot. He has parked himself at the highest point in the enclosure under the UVB tube and lounged there for stretches of time, but his favourite spot thus far is...

    Elliot

Hi all, After the enclosure build that seemed to take longer than the entire series of Game of Thrones (but with a more satisfying conclusion), we finally received our new boy yesterday. He was a bit of a maniac, climbing the walls (and taking a couple of tumbles), but he has settled in nicely...

    Enclosure Completed

Built both the stand and enclosure... my wife wants me to build some rustic furniture so the stand was my test drive. The sealer is Excel Waterproofer: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1901/9671/files/5990.pdf?8608038563255384965

    Enclosure Completed

Thanks! Even though I used a matte sealer, it came out with more of a sheen than I wanted but I have taken some of it down with steel wool. It was a great excuse to buy some new tools, and buy I did :D

Temperature Readings: PE2 vs Herpstat Probe

Thanks, appreciate the info. I will try adjusting the emissivity level, guessing at the type of wood (hard and dense - likely some type of ash) and give it another go, making sure I measure correctly. Cheers, James.

Temperature Readings: PE2 vs Herpstat Probe

Having just set up the new enclosure, I will run it for a week or so to ensure that everything is working properly before picking up our new dragon. I have an Exo-Terra 150W Daylight Basking Spot in an Exo-Terra Light Dome mounted over log which angles upward to a ledge, with the bulb being...

    Enclosure Completed

Well that took waaaay longer that I thought it would, and I learned some lessons along the way but overall, I am generally pleased with the result. I will let the enclosure cycle for a week to make sure everything is good then my dragon hunt will start.

    How Many Coats of Grout?

I found a product called Excel Waterproofer. The technical data sheet reads as follows: Excel Waterproofing Sealer is a safe to use, water based, breathable, high binding, clear acrylic, penetrating sealer/primer. It seals, waterproofs, primes and protects. Goes on milky white but dries clear...

    How Many Coats of Grout?

I am in the process of grouting the foam board that I have in the enclosure I am building. I am using non-sanded grout and have put 4 coats on now, making each coat a slightly thicker consistency than the previous. Here are a couple of pics of the progress thus far... Pretty monotone thus...
