It's both. But the tissue can start dying under the scales at times and may feel squishy.

Sometimes tail rot is developing under the scales before it all gets the brittle look. Try very gently squeezing the tail from the " good " area down to the dark area to see if it feels squishy down there. Remember, just do so gently.

How often does he drink and how many blueberries and other veg/fruit does he eat ? Some dragons do pass more water.

I would use raw honey rather than that but either one is fine for small wounds. Does he have any areas that are cut or are you just thinking of having ointment on hand for the future ? But his pores don't need anything done.

Spands is right, those pores are fine, nothing needs done. If you start squeezing them you'll cause a probllem.

It wouldn't be a gnat or moth, they really can't bite but a hidden cricket, dubia or superworm could come out at night or a spider lurking in the cage. I doubt that's what it is, hopefully it's just a scratch from maneuvering under something.

That's a beautiful plant, good thing the beardie survived after eating . Some flowers are toxic as well, daffodil for one. Hibiscus and rose of sharon are both edible.
