    Scared Beardies

My sister jokingly suggested that I bring him back to the pet store just to show what they missed out on. I couldn't find a citrus/full orange dragon for less than $400 at the time - and I would have had to order a red dragon in from Mexico. Very very happy with what I got! Absolutely would have...

    Scared Beardies

We've had weird weather this year - we started to see spring with 20C (~68F) days, but then we had a huge snow storm and now we can't seem to get over 0C (~32F). I've been able to open the window for Kepler to get some UVB exposure - he loves being out of his tank now, to the point where I get a...

    Scared Beardies

That's really interesting! It's crazy to me that they have such a great memory. Truly amazing animals. I use a large cardboard box to feed crickets to Kepler and it honestly didn't even occur to me that, when I first put him in, his desperate reaction of clawing at me and seemingly apathetic...

    Scared Beardies

It's currently snowing, and somehow there's some sun for Kepler to bask in. He's enjoying it while it lasts. He looks at me with utter disappointment when there isn't any sun for him - he's waiting for me to figure out how to stop the earth from spinning.

    Scared Beardies

I am too! Thank you for all your help when I initially posted here. I have seen the exact same behavior in Kepler - if there isn't sunshine to warm him up, he's searching for some way to climb onto my shoulder. He is gorgeous, isn't he! For $150 CAD, I'm super happy with the vibrant orange...

    Scared Beardies

It has definitely surprised me how intuitive beardies can be. I've noticed that Kepler does have an understanding of how to get down from my bed, or the windowsill, and where to find the warm spots. There is definitely intelligence, but boy, do they ever have their dumb moments. Still love 'em...

    Scared Beardies

Thank you! I'm very happy with how his colour is developing. He's so fun to look at.

    Scared Beardies

It seems like I have only posted about scared and timid beardies on this forum - this one is an update and overview on my experience and suggestions for a scared beardie. By NO means am I an expert. I have owned Kepler for 6 months, and I have owned precisely 0 reptiles before Kepler...

    Timid/shy beardie

Ah I just found some on rainbowmealworms that are much cheaper. I'll have to try them out then! Thank you!

    Timid/shy beardie

I have been trying to sit near his tank and occasionally toss a meal worm near his hide. It forces him to come out a little bit if he wants it. I haven't tried hornworms because they're $3+ per worm for some reason, and I haven't seen silkworms at any of the stores I've been to yet. Ok, thank...

    Timid/shy beardie

I posted a thread here a couple weeks ago about my beardie being terrified of me. The advice given was to exercise patience and just wait it out. Since then, Kepler is still BOLTING away from me and anyone that walks through my door. He runs directly into his hide on the cool side and stays...

    Beardie scared of me

@xp29 @AHBD Thank you both for the help and assurances! I'm very happy with him regardless, and I'm prepared to wait as long as it takes. Good to know I'm not screwing him up!

    Beardie scared of me

Mirage is adorable!! I love his colouring. Thank you for the warm welcome and wisdom!

    Beardie scared of me

Thanks for all the information! I definitely take him out quite a bit. He has already jumped off of my shoulder, scared the crap out of me... he's not the most cautious creature, that's for sure! I sit on the ground when he's out, I have a very clean and accessible room, so I don't mind him...

    Beardie scared of me

This is Kepler - going from what the pet store told me, he's about 5 months old (maybe 10-11" long). I did a ton of research before purchasing Kepler. I wanted to avoid as many rookie mistakes as possible. I feed him twice a day: romaine lettuce, carrot/bell pepper, mealworms (x5) - I let him...
