    Dragon just won't get better

T8s should be changed every 6 months. T5s last longer. I still replace my t5s every 9. You need to tell us the distance the uvb light is from the basking spot. Screen no screen that it's sitting on? What type of uvb bulb (12% 14% T5 or t8). What are your temps on hot side of tank and cool side...

    Husbandry and Enclosure Questions

Thanks for the reply. I can see the brain cell not working and maybe something happening. Though that substrate is used in many bio vivs for beardies nowadays with no issues as is play sand top soil. It is always best to be cautious but impaction is from off husbandry most of the time based on...

    What substrate should I use?

They are semi smooth with coarse texture if that makes any sense. It's slate lol. Those shingles they use on million dollar homes and stuff. As for temps my slate on ground next to my loose is 2 degrees fahrenheit warmer. As for basking spot I use rock slabs. They are no warmer then I want them...

    Husbandry and Enclosure Questions

Weird thought impaction problems were based off bad husbandry. So their native sand that they live on in the wild is bad? Just trying to figure out the reasoning! Thanks

    What substrate should I use?

I use slate roof shingles. Looks semi natural as well.

    New enclosure!

I would add some spineless opituna and maybe some dessert grasses. Any reason for the pebbles and not some topsoil/play sand? I like the privacy ladder hammock section!

    Husbandry and Enclosure Questions

the Jurassic Australian Sand is the way to go but just expensive. It's just real sand from the Australian dessert. Looks amazing but i would just use a top soil washed play sand mix to save money. Yet if you have the money grab the Jurassic sand! Heres a closeup of some play sand top soil mix i...

    Bilbo's Intro!

Yeah my ir gun and probe match up almost identically. Right now I'm reading 110.7 at the closest point. I also have my basking fixture at an angle to create a gradient. So it's possible I'm just reading the highest temp and he's been sitting in the gradient of the lamp a couple degrees cooler...

    Bilbo's Intro!

Makes more sense. I did lower temps but my guy was sitting in the hottest spot for the last 2 weeks. He thermoregulated and was active. He would not even go to the coolest side of the enclosure. I appreciate the input and will see how it goes! Will monitor his activity levels and hopefully...

    Bilbo's Intro!

The uvb is clearly under the screen and not worried about distance... I use a ir temp gun for basking temps and probes for air temps as an ir gun will not give you accurate readings for air temps..

    Bilbo's Intro!

Thanks! will do I dropped it to 110 and will see how it goes. I just know temps for wild beardies basking goes into the 130° range and even higher depending on color of surface. I've made sure to include plenty of hiding spaces with shade that also provide further cool down spots. Wouldent we...
