Must get high

I decided to poop on my branch, so I had to have a bath while my hooman cleaned my branch - now my branches are in different positions so I must get to the highest most point to soak up the heat and UVB.

My owner watched me trying to get even higher until I realised the end of the branch was as close to the lights as is safe for me.

Bloody hoomans….always thinking they know best…I’ll teach him..I do what I want!

Thats cute 😍
A word of advice, get rid of the red light. It serves no useful purpose and it will damage your dragons eyes. If you need night time heat please use a ceramic heat emitter. They want to sleep in the dark same as us.

I was considering changing it, but after speaking to a few local reptile keepers, friends and more, I decided to trial it and at least for the moment stick with it.

It's infrared which doesn't disrupt the dragons night and day cycle or sleep.

I turn down the temperature from 30 celcius to about 26 celcius every night, and given that I'm a bit of a night owl have been keeping an eye on him - he just sleeps straight through it - sleeps better than I do in fact.

As a good friend of mine said, who's been keeping reptiles for so long we lost count - if it starts to become disruptive I can change it out - but for now it's working :)

Edit: It's not specifically a night heater, in fact it's only 4pm here right now and the sun is still quite high - it only comes on when the temperature in the tank drops.

Im not trying to be argumentative, but that being said, it is NOT infrared, we can see the light, so it is visible light, not infrared. Also beardies have more cones in their eyes than we do, they see better and in spectrums we do not.

I'm not tying to be argumentative either - nor dismissive - just conveying information that was given to me from a variety of sources.

When so many different sources tell you the same thing, you tend to believe it, but I am someone that is always cynical by nature and looking for ways to improve things - especially for the care of my animals (My house is turning in to a bit of a multi-animal zoo (Crabs, several species of fish, dog and now beardy with more on their way after I finish training for my new job).

I find it amazing that stockists and suppliers or manufacturers are able to advertise something as being 'scientifically' safe or proven - advertising them specifically as infrared (it was on the box and in the information on the side of the box - as well as a variety of different websites who also condoned it over other lamps - if in fact they are not.

I absolutely despise ceramic heat emitters - but this is from personal experience and I won't be using them full time.

Time to go back to the drawing board to find something else - regardless - due to personal circumstances with work, I'd have to order it in, then wait for it to come, then fit it when it arrives on my weekend off (I'm being sent to a different city in my state for training so my partner will be feeding and caring for it but also does shift work, so the next few weeks are going to be tough.

Ramble aside - what is a non-light emitting lamp that is safe for 24/7 heat/basking that isn't a CHE (won't be getting those unless there are absolutely no other options or the little guy starts to go down hill or stops sleeping).

Considering heat lamps or globes are globes, from the research I've done there will always be residual light, and white light is worse than the red light or light emitted from the red globe. So I'm at a bit of an impasse.

I probably mispoke on the infrared part. That light may put out infrared but it ALSO puts out visible light. that would be why they get away with advertising it as infrared.
Other than the ceramic heat emitters I'm not sure what else could be used, I've tried the heat mats but they didn't work very well.
@KarrieRee or @AHBD might have a better suggestion.

Just out of curiosity what issues have you had with CHE? I know they can melt plastic fixtures, but I haven't heard issues in properly rated ceramic socketed fixtures.

I melted my exotera tops with them lol.
I also moved one on to a piece of glass and forgot it once, it was a top open tank with glass between the two screens. When it came on that evening it reminded pretty quickly lol. (The glass popped and broke)

Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
