New Beardie/Health Concerns

Hi All. I have some concerned about Oz. He's been in our home for 12 days and seemed to be doing pretty well. He ate the very first night we brought him home and everyday after until yesterday. Yesterday he refused to eat any bugs. Same attitude today. I waited a couple hours for him to warm up and tried to offer him some breakfast. He watches the bugs move around and just looks away. He seems almost lethargic today. Maybe just really sleepy? He's not moving from one of his favorite basking spots. He didn't move around his tank to much before but most days would at least wander around check things out and then go back to basking. Today he pooped and it was a little yellow on the end of the white urate. Dehydrated? Poor UVB? Humidity to low? Normal? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I am worried about the little guy.

Details on his set up. Zoo Med T5 10.0 22 inch across the back of a 36 in long enclosure. It's 18 inches deep and 18 inches tall. The light sits on top of the mesh. His favorite spot is about 10 or 11 inches from the UVB. He has a 100 watt basking bulb and his favorite spot is about 105 degrees. He's about 6 1/2 inches long. His UVB is right next to his basking bulb and the cool side has some space where there is no UVB. On the cool side I do have a daylight led bulb because that side seemed to be to dark. The cool side is about 80 to 85 degrees and the hot side is about 100 to 105. That is the temp directly below his basking light. I moved the humidity probe around his basking area and the humidity is quite low. It's about 15%. On the cool side it's hovers around 26%. At night the temp drops to about 68 and the humidity comes up to about 35%.

Thank you for your help.

What kind of screen? Wide hole type or a fine screen like a screen door? The fine screen is going to block 30% of the rays -- this would effect the eating - hes not able to absorb the calcium hes ingesting so that may have something to do w/ the urate and the yellow

I wouldn't say its a fine mesh but the holes are pretty small. You could only just stick the point of a pencil or pen through them. It's also coated black. Don't know if that matters.

Yes that is a wide hole type how thick is the screen is it really a heavy screen? ---- it can be on top w/ basking decor directly underneath 8-10 inches but if its a thicker screen I would recommend you putting it in the tank -- how much calcium are you giving? is the urate moist at all or is it really dried out? that would be sign of dehydration

Hope this isn't to gross but I actually took a picture. I think it still seemed pretty moist. I am not sure if it's a thicker screen. Maybe it seems a little thicker. So if I move it inside can his basking rock stay how it is or is 10 to 11 inches to close? Also since it's a T5 does he need as much calcium/calcium with d3. I was dusting one bug feeding a day (5 days) with calcium with d3 and then (2 days) two feedings with multi vitamins (which also have d3). So one dusting a day.

I would leave it on top for now and cut back on the 5 days per week w/ the calcium D 3 --- how old is Oz?

Ok so he needs the calcium as you were doing then so keep him hydrated is he eating greens?
Not really. I put them in everyday before bugs for about an hour or two to give him time. He has eaten 2 or 3 bites of greens since we got him. I've been worried about dehydration since he isn't really eating them.

Have you tried using bsfl on top of the salads?

I've put crickets in his salad and its gotten him to it but he gobbles them up and them leaves. He doesn't seem to love the bsfl. He will eat them but typically only if we hand feed them.

Try getting some dubias or super worms get smalls use them as lures- add like 1-3 on top and do it in front of him dubias are easier to work w/ than the crickets- dubias are a better staple feeder-

Not sure - what can I try and help you with?
thanks for reply, here are my posts from weekend

HI, Ive been reading these threads and think my buddy has gout, we have rehomed him from a friend of the family and not sure how old he is but he is and adult. I have previously given him cherries to eat which seemed to help his symptoms but he longer will eat them so I want to try black cherry juice. I have seen you recommend .5ml daily, I want to ask you if I buy it concentrated do I need to dilute it first or is .5ml of concentrate ok? also can I buy powder or a supplement. The juices say they last up to 2 months which would mean a lot of waste and expense, just want to find the most cost effective treatment for him.
Also I have seen on a thread about allopurinol, not sure if it was you or another mod but they said they would be able to inform where to get this (if needed) and the dosage.
Thanks

Also just thought, would frozen cherries blended be a good supplement?
Thanks

have just bought some frozen cherries, syringe fed .5 of the juice but syringe feeding stresses him out. I am able to sneak a bit of cherry into his mouth whilst gaping, how much would you advice giving him daily?

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
