Beginning stages of tail rot?

So i got this great Bearded dragon and ive had him for 2 weeks. I personally dont think this is tail rot but because my last bearded dragon came with tail rot that was to late to save im paranoid. Looks like his tail got shut in a door or lid but doesnt look like tail rot. Just getting your opinions of what to do about it. Hes very active and alert and shows no negative signs at all.

It definitely looks damaged at the end. That doesn't mean that there is an infection present though. I would keep a close eye on it for now and take pictures regularly. That way you can compare more easily over time. The tail may just stay as it is and cause no issues. The damaged area may eventually fall off. If that happens and there is an open wound, then keep it clean and sanitized the best you can using some betadine or plain neosporin until the wound heals over. If the damaged area appears to be moving further up the tail, that could indicate an infection has set in and a vet should be consulted.

Ok sounds good. He just doesnt seem like its bothering him and i didnt feel like it was tail rot but i know the last beardie i had just the tip darkened and after the vet took the tip off within days half his tail turned black so im just nervous.

Hello,

That is good to hear it doesn't seem to be bothering him any right now. As Cooper suggested, just keep an eye on any darker or
discolored area. Usually if there isn't any infection, the end should just heal up or fall off, depending on the severity of the injury.
A lot of dragons end up having little injuries, etc, on their tail tips that end up healing nicely.

Hi guys! Just posting an update of his tail a week later. Looks like it still hasnt spread but might possibly be getting ready to fall off.

Yeah it looks like it may fall off at the crimped area. As long as the end heals over and you don't see any damage moving up the tail, it shouldn't cause any long term problems.

Yeah I'd probably have that looked at. The vet may want to take the end off to give the rest a chance to heal and may prescribe some antibiotics. Since it's so early on, I'd imagine it should heal up well and not cause a long term problem once treated.

I hope everything goes well. The interesting thing about it is even though its turned black, it still doesnt go past the crimped part of the tail. I got him in an ER appointment tomorrow morning so i will see. I cant believe i have that bad of luck that out of the 2 bearded dragons ive had ive gotten them both with damage tails that turned into tail rot 😔

It does stink that so many of them wind up with damaged tails (and fingers/toes). Fortunately it's treatable when caught early and they can go on to have a full and happy life even in the extreme cases where amputation is needed.

Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
