I don't see why you couldn't mount the zoomed under the screen. You may have to get creative on how the hood gets attached. Ie you may have to get small picture hanging wire to wrap around the hood with it held tight to the screen. Then you would need to measure to see how far up from the bottom...

You should be good with a uvb on top of that. It's not as open as the screen on my 20 gallon, but it doesn't look like house window screen either. I would do the zoomed hood. A sun blaster won't sit well on a screen compared to zoomed, but sun blaster is small a light and could be easily...

How tight is the mesh? Can you post a pic of it. Uvb is a weird animal. If you put plastics between bulb and tank you would get no uvb. Even using some glasses uvb will not penetrate it. Super fine insect style screen in your windows, you get maybe 10% uvb through it. Loose screen on my 20...

What are you using for a heating lamp? Also you will need to replace the t5 bulbs yearly, and if I'm correct the t8 need to be changed every 6 moths. So that is a consideration as well. The reason is uvb bulbs degrade over time. Man. Just realized I got one bulb that needs to be changed out...

If you get the sunblaster t5 it will come with two different sets of clips. Use these ones: Basically run a zip ties of small wire through the hole of the clip and through the screen top and twist it tight.

hey brandon. The op issue is finding a fixture for the t8. The t8 bulb are 1990 technology and as you say work good a 6 inches. T5 bulbs are current technology and way more powerful compared to t8 and less energy to run as well. Yes t5 will cover a greater distance due to being more powerful...

My main tank is 8x2x2 with a center wall making two 4x2x2 tanks. The cool thing with sun blaster lights is you can daisy chain them together. One power cord, multiple light. Also my lights are 11 inches about my highest basking platform
