    turkistan roaches

Yes, they are climbing up the silicone in the corners of the tank. Easy remedy is to buy some of that 1.5" wide clear packing tape and put it in the corners around the top. They can't climb that tape. You don't have to have the rubbermaid bin, that tank will work fine. If you do get a...

Crickets just arrived through the mail

Little furry black worms? They are the larvae of Dermestid beetles which eat decaying animal matter mostly. They feed on the dead cricket bodies and shed skins. Some consider them clean up bugs, some consider them pests. They are quite common in shipments of crickets though. Pop em in a...

    Turk Infestation!!!`

    8) It kinda freaked me out when I thought I had Turks in my backyard too. Amazing how two species from separate continents can evolve to the point they look identical! I know they are different since I am raising them both and the behaviors are different, but from looks alone one could never...

    Housing Crickets

1000 adult crickets in a 10gal will be pretty cramped. You could do it, just make sure to include lots of eggcrates or something similar, and they would need to be packed pretty close to the top, which would mean escapees when you take off the lid. If they are 1/2" or smaller it would be much...

Superworm Care and Breeding, a Step by Step Guide

Nice write up on them! And some nice pictures to go along with it. Pros: Since you are producing your own endless supply of feeders, you don't have to worry about hustling down to the petstore when you get off work to pick up more food or bug your parents to take you to the petstore for the...

    Egg Flats

I thought about buying some of those cheap plastic ice cube trays from the dollar store and using them. You would need to sand em down a bit to create some texture so the roaches could climb them, but something like that or the plastic egg flats would work fine if you sanded them I think. Plus...

    Turk Infestation!!!`

There is a species of wood roach here in the states, Parcoblatta Zebra (Banded wood cockroach) that is visually identical to Turks as far as I can tell. I found a mess load of them in my backyard this pass summer before I even have the Turks on hand. Their habits are very similar, but the P...

What do your roaches like to eat?

Mine love baby rice cereal (the one with the mixed fruits) and fresh oranges like there is no tomorrow. Chicken egg laying mash has become a new favorite and now my staple dry feed for them as well. Butternut squash is a big hit as well.. The Dubia love whole oats while the Turkestans don't...

    feeding crickets ?

A cheap dry dog or cat food works great as a food source for them. They need a high protein diet to survive and to limit cannibalism as well. For moisture with a smaller quantity of crickets, carrots seem to be the best bet since they won't mold very easily.

    Minimealworms??

They are a different species of beetle, but very closely related to regular mealworms. They probably also suffer the same lack of nutrition coupled with the high chitin:meat problems that mealworms have. I would advise against feeding them to a beardie.

Help! The more I read, the more questions I have!

The thing with feeding either mealworms or superworms is that beardies have a natural kink in their intestinal tract that acts as a bottleneck for the chitin from feeders. Mealworms are very high in chitin:meat ratio and superworms are high in chitin:meat but not as much as mealworms. Once the...

    Butterworms and Pheonixworms

I recently touched on this in another post about butterworms. viewtopic.php?f=18&t=100076&start=15#p778623 That is how I understand the relative fat values of the feeders and my current standing on butterworms as a feeder. There is a link in that post that lists crickets at 43% fat from...

    Housing Crickets

With 1k crickets, they will plow through those premade orange cubes and it gets rather expensive. Best to order the dry crystals in bulk and make them yourself. http://www.water-sorb.com/store.php?crn=207 is a good deal, and 2lb will last you a long while.
