    Lentils

I place a paper towel on a plate and totally soak it, then pour the water off. Then sprinkle some lentils on the paper towel. Keep it moist with a daily misting and you should see sprouts in a few days. My Mali Uro is iffy on lentils. Some days yes, some no go..now peas he always loves!

New Uro won't eat, other issues

A vet visit certainly couldn't hurt. I would also avoid any insect food. Uro's are herbivores. Insect/animal protein can lead to problems with health down the road as I understand it. I would not recommend the force feeding either, it will only add to the stress and compound the problem. I...

New Uro won't eat, other issues

Well, my first answer from what I have read and being about 2 months ahead of you in owning a Uro is this..they take a awhile to acclimate. Not a week, but weeks/months. I would just leave him alone for the most part. Keep offering him his greens everyday and try to sort of keep an eye on his...

    Help Doug

Well, signs of recovery is great! I figured natural sunlight could have no downside aside from stress from the change in environment...can't beat the real thing! Hopefully Doug might have some insight. As I understand the principle (and I may be off base), reptiles need vitamin d to utilize...

    Help Doug

Wow , I am sorry and disturbed to hear this. It sounds like you jumped on it and I am hopeful for a full recovery with the addition of UVB. If your is tame enough to handle, perhaps some small doses of natural outdoor sunlight might help too. Have you by chance contacted Doug Dix with this? I...

    Meet BamBam!

I was sort of surprised as well that my lil guy doesn't really seem to be able to or does not bother to really tear up big pieces of green. Just sort of down the hatch. I am now really careful to cut up his salad into small pieces. Oddly perhaps, I use a small pair of scissors that I think were...

    Thinking about a Uro

I am no carpenter and managed to put mine together over about a week. Really getting the glass cut was the only part of the project that couldn't be done with trips to home depot.

    Thinking about a Uro

Well, they are often homebuilt, like I did. This has the advantage of being whatever size you like. I went with the standard 4x2x2 described here out of 1/2 plywood and a bit different with the lights. http://www.freewebs.com/crossfireenclosures/ If you are not up to building something, a...

    Thinking about a Uro

If either of you decide to get one, I wish you luck. They are really fun guys to watch and interact with. If you can build a crossfire enclosure, you can certainly make foam/concrete type backgrounds and caves..it is really simple. Lots of explanations in the DIY section. I stray from the...

    Thinking about a Uro

Chris, he is pretty active actually. He has a routine we have figured out. He generally starts poking his head out of his hide between 9-10 am (lights go on at 6am) and by 11am he is up basking. Usually around this time we will give him his little snack (flower, a few iguana bites etc). Usually...

    Thinking about a Uro

I have had Gunthar for exactly one month. As a result of the short period, I cannot claim any real experience, but can give a few observations.. Guthar is skittish. I have not handled him since they day I got him from Deer FernFarms, preferring to allow him a long settle in time. I am in the...

    Viv pics!!!

I think they are tolerant of handling, but don't really crave it. I would not consider them like a bearded dragon or in my case, crested gecko in that they seem to crave human interaction. My Uromastyx is still skittish, and am hopeful he will tolerate occasional handling for cage cleaning, but...

    Meet BamBam!

Congrats on Bam Bam! I was going to hold out and buy mine (Gunthar) at the SD show..I am two hours north, but got antsy and bought Gunthar via mail from Doug three weeks ago. I am happy with him, but picking out the one you want would have been great like you did. On the assumption yours is...
