Bearded dragon life spans are not that long. Most make it to around 10. So, the adult probably didn't die from impaction. Unless a vet did a necropsy to find out the cause, there's no way to know. the baby beardie dying from impaction because it was on sand I am not surprised about.

How did you have two die of impaction if you don't use loose substrate?

I happen to have three beardies that dig at least twice a week. I feed them out of a bowl or different container so they don't eat off the sand in general. I don't put it in there because I "like the appearance" either. Not once have I seen sand in their poop either. This is a similar argument to...

Google Central Austrailia and tell me you see no sand and only tile. What about their taking away their natural digging? How can they dig on tile?

I did know that. I am not uneducated. You do what you do for your beardies and I'll do what I do for mine. Everyone I know personally keep theirs on a fine calci-sand just like I do. Even the keepers I have known for years. No one has ever had a problem.

I would also like to point out that the care sheet says to use regular play sand. How is that better?

    Can't get basking area correct

I would use the 100 watt zoo med. The beardie can always move away from the heat if he gets too warm. As long as your cool side sits around 80-85 degrees and his basking spot is about 115 degrees then I say your good.

Baby beardies shouldn't be on any form of lose substrate. My boys are all on calcium sand but they are all adults. Babies are so much more prone to impaction. I would use a retpi carpet. Is your all in one light a sun spot? Also instead of the red light I would use a ceramic heat emitter if the...

    New to the Forum

That is exactly what I am doing :) He seems to be doing much better already, even with the RI. I have seen hook worms in dogs (I work at a dog/cat practice) and it takes a tole on the whole body. Today is the first day he didn't have any boogies covering his nose! So I'd call that an...
