Toothless corner

Every single time I get Toothless out to hang out, whenever I put him back, he crawls into the opposite corner of his tank, under where his hammock is and lays down. He doesn't go to sleep, he stays awake and alert but he just lays in that corner or in that general area under a part of his log, completely out of his basking spot. And he will stay there all day, unless I pull him back out to bask.

He's almost a year old, 620+ grams, 22 inches, doesn't eat much. He will eat at least a few chunks of repashy, *maybe* a bite or two of salad and a few horn/silk/super worms a day. His basking temp is a good 103ish, ambient 90 something and he runs around, he looks at us when we talk to him, he head bobs at Nova and the babies. He's otherwise totally alert and fine seeming. Is it a concern that he wants to spend so much time just laying in the corner.? Almost like he prefers the cool, darker part of his tank. If I pull him out and put him on his basking spot, he'll stay there, for some reason it just mainly happens after I put him back in his tank.

he might be ready to turn down the basking temp some. sir henry likes to bask at about 95°. you could try adjusting that and see if it changes anything.

I agree with Hdochow, I would scale his basking temp back a little, maybe the ambient also.

Well, his light is extended as high as it'll go and anything below a 150w doesn't get his spot warm enough. He's always liked his stuff on the warmer side and is good about getting off the direct light and sitting on the side of his hide if it's too hot. Do you think it's a health concern that he goes to the other corner and lays, even though he stays awake and alert.?

No not really, your just as likely to find my dragons in the cool side as the warm, especially Zen and Ruby. Sinatra moves in and out all say long also.

I've noticed Nova does it too. They don't really sleep but they'll maybe close their eyes and take a nap but immediately open them if you open their tanks or a loud enough noise. I just thought it was weird and knew warmth was important to their health, it was getting worrisome

They do have to get up to temp, (for digestion and such) but they don't have to stay at temp all the time. As long as they bask some they should be ok.

Oh okay, good. I always thought the heat was like.. upmost important to their health. That makes me feel better. It makes me think he just gets over stimulated after being out and doing stuff. he's a weenie
