Hello,

Poor Zilla. She most likely had a follicle burst internally which usually causes peritonitis or the inflammation
of the uterine wall. I bet it did look like scrambled eggs poor thing! No wonder she wasn't doing 100%, with
all of that going on inside.
She does look pretty tired but hopefully she will be feeling better real soon. Let's hope that they got the mess all cleaned up!

She seems to be feeling a bit better today. She’s staying in temps of high 80s mid 90s for most part. Her tail in low 100s. Where she wants to lay down her uvb light blocks the basking bulb so it’s been a bit of a pain keeping temps accurate. I’ve been watching her temps at night and it says it’s around 80 but she always feels cold when I touch her. I’m using 2 different devices to check temps so not sure why she got so cold last night when the cage was steady 80. I even have a heated blanket through over half the top of the tank and leave it on to help hold heat.

I took her outside for a bit and she started trying to fight me to get out of her tote bag I had her resting in. Had to bring her in so she wouldn’t hurt herself and she just layed down and wanted to sleep. She’s still not wanting to eat on her own yet and fights me over the crit care. I’m trying not to have her throw herself around but she does to try to get away from foods and meds. Now I just have to get her to eat on her own and go potty and I think we’re on the right track. In the meantime I’m just trying to let her sleep and get her light ha as much as possible. I know that anesthesia still has her worn out some. And the rest should hopefully do her good.

Just an update.

She went potty last night and it was a mess and stinky. I had to clean off her tail. She’s still not wanting to eat on her own. I had managed to get her to take a few very small pieces of watermelon that I kept rubbing against her lips but that is it. Normally she goes after it. She’s still acts like she’s exhausted and wanting to sleep all the time. When she is awake she seems to want to close one eye a lot.

It’s not exactly warm outside yet but I’ve been trying to get her out in the sun some and she’ll look around a bit but that’s about it. She doesn’t try to move unless she’s really hot.

How long does the anesthesia usually last or could it be her pain meds? Last time she had the surgery it was done different and I brought her home the day of so it took about a week for her to wake up. This being tired like this is new for me and just want to be safe it’s nothing I need to be concerned with. She is currently taking metacam .15 ml every 12 hours

Hello Brandon!

How is little Zilla doing today?
The anesthesia's effects can sometimes last a few days, meaning she could feel groggy, tired &
have very little appetite. Is her beard normal colored or darker than usual?
I would be giving some probiotics though, because the metacam is probably one of the culprits of
her upset tummy.
Is she basking normally for a good portion of the day?

I did give her a little non dairy yogurt today and some Gatorade. She usually takes between 5-7 crit care a day but as vet talked she should have been eating on her own within a few days and that’s why I am worried some. Her beard looks normal though

I know it was a big surgery so she’s exhausted and probably still sore/hurting. She’s only on pain meds for 5-7 days after is what I was told.

When she wants to walk she seems to do good she just would rather lay most the time but I can’t blame her if she’s not feeling great yet. It’s not even been a week.

She always wants to lay in one spot in her cage though. And with the uvb hooked inside where it is it’s not easy to get the basking right a live her. She usually has her head outside of it in hight 80s low 90s and her tail sometimes her back side is in the light and it can go from mid 90s - low 100s.

It’s a 75 watt basking bulb and on a dimmer so I keep adjusting it to try to keep temps from getting too hot on her. Part of me wonders if she is depressed since she’s not use to being in the cage as much as she has lately. Usually we’re outside and she can get on the ground or whatever. Lately she just goes out and I hold her.

She acts like she does better in some ways but then others I question. Like she still acts like she’s ready for bed as soon as we come in the house and she does seem to want to hold her left eye closed alot more than normal. I would feel a little better if she would eat on her own or even try to get up and walk more.

I’ll add some pics of her where she is currently laying. They show temps and stuff. They are usually around that range. They are a little low at the moment since we just came in from outside and I didn’t have her dimmer turned up when we were out.

Edit: i also should mention she is on a pillow that sets about the height of her hammock in those pics. I have taken it out and just let her lay on the bottom of the tank on a blanket so the uvb is around the low 2 range. I was worried she may have been too close to the uvb and it could be why she keeps shutting her one eye even when not in the tank.

Had her outside for a while again and she looked around and held her head up for a bit. Made her a slurry with kale, blueberries, banana, watermelon, and some water to give her something besides critcare again. She fought me after half a syringe but ended up getting 2 in her. Soon as we can in though she’s ready for bed again.

I did get a pic of her outside looking around and she let me get one of the incision.

Bless her heart, you tell the poor little thing still don't feel good. Hopefully she bounces back pretty quick.

Hello Brandon,

If she isn't used to the tank it might be affecting her some, it can stress them being in a different
enclosure. She doesn't look too bad there. Most likely she is sore from another surgery so I can't
blame her for not wanting to move around much yet. She has been through an ordeal for sure.
Do the best you can with feeding rigt now. If she is fighting you some on it then at least she has
some strength.
Keep her a little warmer overnight right now also.
Did they give you anything to put on the incision?

Let us know how she is doing.

Yeah she hates her tank. Before she started getting sick she was hardly ever in it. She even sleeps in bed with me normally. This past winter with her being sick I believe is longest she’s ever been in it except when she was little and I would work during the day. We’re use to being outside or if I’d go down the road she’d be right with me.

I’m currently getting around 5-7 ml of crit care a day in her unless I substitute some for just liquids or a slurry. I keep offering BSFL and fruit daily for her but she just looks at it. If she would try to eat on her own at least a little would make me feel better.

When I had her out yesterday she started opening her mouth like she was hot then shut it immediately. Did that a few times then she held it open a bit. I Havnt seen her try to even hold her mouth open since surgery. I’m sure they had a breathing tube in her for surgery so her throat is probably sore from that some.

It’s suppose to be warm again today so I’m debating on taking her out for a bit or just let her rest without handling her.

I wasn’t given or told to put anything on the incisions sight. All they gave me was more cipro (she just went off a day before surgery) and the metacam at a really small increased doseage. They told me to only give it to her for 5-7 day. She was originally put on it at the beginning of the month and was still on it to the day of her surgery so she never went off, just got a slight increase in dosage. Is that something I should wean her off of? I don’t know if it would cause issues to just stop it all at once.

Edit: last night I started putting her heated blanket she normally sleeps in directly on her instead of around her tank. From the temps I took it seems to be staying around 80-84 degrees where she is. So she’s at least staying warm now instead of feeling cold even though her temps were in 80s when the blanket was wrapped around her tank.

The incision looks good. If her throat is a bit sore you can try a little raw honey mixed with lukewarm water to soothe it. Hopefully she continues to progress to good health !

So I went to a few different stores to look for honey. This is the best one I found. Is it ok or do I need filtered? Also any idea how much I should give? Don’t want to overdo it.

Thanks

Just a few drops , rough estimate about 1 part honey to 10 parts water , warmed slightly so it mixes and use a syringe. The honey will last a long time so it doesn't matter if she takes it some days or only for a short while. You can use the rest of the bottle for yourself of course.

Thank you she really seems to like that. She liked it a little bit and normally she fights me on everything from the start.

What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
