Hi! i’m back with a lil update on Spike, and i’m kinda worried :/ He was doing fine until about this past Tuesday. The weather has been a little cooler, cloudy and rainy, but i’ve noticed he is sleeping like A LOT and it’s been behind his log hide and once found his head inside the log. He’ll pop his head up every now and again with tired looking eyes and i try to feed him and he’ll take a super worm or a dandelion here and there and the first day i noticed it he ate about 5 dusted dubai roaches with some greens, but not like how he usually eats. I’ve attached a couple photos for reference. I do have a sand mat in his tank because a friend who also has beardies (and has had them before over her life period) recommended it to me, but i don’t like it very much so i’m considering just the nonadhesive liner like Karrie suggested before. His coloring is a little odd, he’s showing orange on his sides where it’s usually just been dark, but now it’s dark and orange. He hasn’t pooped in about 3-5 days, and the other day i had picked him up out of the tank to lay with me to try and see if he’d become a little more active and he just chilled there. Please help for i am starting to worry for my handsome boy!

What are his surface basking temps and how are you taking them? His UVB how old is the bulb ? What is the brand and bulb your using and where is the placement and distance for the UVB? We need to rule these things out for the behavior-- its good hes eating - sometimes they wont poop for a while if all is correct w/ what I asked above he will eventually go poop -- is he hydrated?

sorry for the late late reply, but His basking temps are usually around 100-108°, i’m using a digital probe thermometer to get an accurate reading. I just bought his UVB bulb not even a month ago and it’s on top of his tank sitting on top of the wide mesh screen, brand is Arcadia PROT5 which came with the PROT5 UVB Kit 24W you had suggested in my last post. I have a bowl of water in his tank that i change frequently, i also spray him, he had ate a lil bit and was actually active for a bit when i made this post but now has gone back into sleeping more frequently and eating less, but hasn’t pooped at all

What is the distance you have the UVB? He will eventually poop as long as his basking temps are good - w/ the behavior it could be weather related - they get lazy and not so active w/ cool rainy weather - did he brumate this winter?

well it’s sitting on top of the mesh so maybe 6” distance wise it’s sitting by his basking lamps horizontally, and he hasn’t brumated this winter yet so that may be what’s going on, it has been cooler and rainy recently

the mesh screen is a wide hole type? If not it needs to be inside the tank - the screen will block 30% of the rays -- we want the basking temps and UVB on par so its not effecting the behavior and then we can rule that out as far as the behavior your getting

Ok good make sure your distance is 8-10 inches directly above the basking decor piece--- w/ all that being good its more than likely a slow down pertaining to the weather - if hes eating he will eventually poop - is he basking at all after eating?

Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
