i recently got a beardie rehoused to me from my friend and she is a full grown beardie around 8-9 years old. he told me that not too long ago she started burping? and that he did a bunch of research to see if there was any health concern, he said that there wasnt any and that she is just a gassy bearded dragon, and i just want to make sure there wont be any concerns with this. im still getting used to her “burping” but would feel better with more knowledge on what is wrong?

UPDATE!!!!

she just took her first poo and pee with me and it does not look good. her pee is like pink? ish ?

Hi there,

Do you have any history on the dragon such as what its daily diet looks like?

If the dragon has gas, it's likely a diet issue, but a burping dragon isn't something we really see.. are you sure the dragon actually burps, as opposed to coughing, dry heaving, or hissing? Have you seen/heard the dragon do this yet yourself?

The poo isn't too concerning, although it does tell of some possible diet issues.

You'd expect the poo to be a little ill-formed since the dragon is new to you. Even old dragons will go through relocation stress when changing environments/homes. You can't take their poo during this time to be a real indicator of what their normal poo looks like. That will just have to take time and you getting to know your dragon.

The good thing is, the poo looks well hydrated.

The urate is not a color that we typically want to see though. That could possibly be due to over-supplementation or from over feeding a specific food item.

Hopefully the dragon will have a proper diet with you, and in a few weeks these "health issues" will be non-existent.

What is your plan, diet-wise?

Hello,

I agree, the urate is definitely off color for sure.
Do you have pictures of her thus far? I realize you haven't had her for very long so as Brandon
has stated it does take time for them to adjust to a new home & environment.
We can review your tank setup such as your UVB lighting/temperatures, feeding & supplementation
to make sure she is on the right track.
It is hard to know exactly what type of diet she had prior to you bringing her home.
We will help as much as we can. Is she eating anything right now?
If she wasn't kept at proper temperatures, it is possible she might have digestive issues to some extent
or a respiratory type of issue developing.

hello! thank you so so much!!

from what i was told she eats like collard greens, carrots, peppers, worms, celery, quail eggs every now and then and i can’t remember what else he told me.

the sounds that she makes kind of sounds like a burp but it also seems like its coming from the lungs? she inhales her body super tight then will make that “burping” sound. ill see if i can get a video of it.

her tank set up has a uvb light and 100w bulb for basking, she has 2 hammocks, a basking slab and basking ramp, and a hide. shes in a 45g tank as she doesnt move around much since shes old. and repticarpet as her flooring

i did give her food but she hasnt had any of it yet, ill try giving her worms tonight to see if she will take any!

if there is anything else i can add to help figure this out let me know!!

i will update with some pictures in just a moment

i forgot to answer the last question my bad!! but the main diet i have all my beardies on is red cabbage, collard greens, carrots, bell peppers, spinach and mealworms with calcium powder, i also will give them treats of grapes, raspberries, strawberries and cucumbers to get their water levels up (if they havent had any water) i also give 2 drops of flukers liquid vitamins every week. i havent done any of this with my new beardie (chonk) yet so i hope that it will stabilize her diet!

Hello,

How is your girl doing today, any improvements?
For now, I would leave out the cabbage & spinach in her diet since you aren't quite sure
of her previous diet. Those two are high in oxalates & can bind calcium absorption. Is she
wanting to eat yet?
You could put her on some probiotics for a week or two in case she has any digestive issues
also. Let us know how she is doing.

What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
