Hi there, you can get the Exo terra uvb bulb. And if you can get him out in the sun for an hour a few times a week he will get the uvb he needs.
Hi, thanks for your reply. Yes in fact now he going out everyday. But I have one thing to confirm.

See my pic, if I just put him direct under the sun (spot B), he would be too hot in very short time and start finding for hide after around 10 mins of basking.

So in order to achieve the 1 hour basking time or more, I normally put him under the roof but at the side nearest to the sun (spot A). Here he would be able to spend 1-2 hours there, would this work? His strips will still turn black here.

The time of the day he go out is usually between 11am to 1pm

He would still get uvb in the shade but is there a way for you to get him out early in the morning before it gets too hot ? What material is he basking on , is it the ground or on a platform ? On the ground would be cooler.

Definitely, that's easier for us actually, but we worried early morning the sun was not strong enough to supply the sufficient UVB?

Outside he is basking on a towel on wood, this is the way to make him stay there, we tried ground but he will show uneasy and find place to hide. I guess he feels safer when there's something to hug 😅

Oh, that's great like that ! Morning sun is excellent uvb and yes I know they like something to climb on. I I was thinking that you might have him in a hot container or on the concrete but the cage is good, maybe you can get a larger one at some time. Just be sure he doesn't get overheated or in danger from roaming animals, keep an eye on him. But yes, that will give him the proper uvb .

Yes we do, you can't imagine how many times we take turn walk out to check on him during our breakfast time.

Following your suggestion I brought him out at about 9.15am today put under direct sun light. He wanted to get out of cage after 30 minutes, not fulfilling the 1 hour 😅

So I think we might need to separate into 2 sun bath session everyday, one under direct sun light for around 10-15 mins, and another one in shade for as long as he likes. Like this is okay?

Can I know what is the best UV index for him? I got this chart that showing the UV index over time of Singapore (my neighbour country), so I think I can choose the best time of day to bring him out (try my best)

He just might have been feeling adventurous, wanting to explore his surroundings. They do that whether in door or outdoors. But yes you can put him out twice a day if you like or build him a larger lightweight outdoor cage. That way he can have a shaded area but also he can move around more than in the small cage.
As for uv index I don't pay attention to those charts, getting them uvb at whatever time you can when it's not too hot or else providing an area of shade is the important thing.

Ya always wanted to have a bigger outdoor area for him but it is a big project, because I must make sure many things like dragon is safe inside when animals attack, he can't run away etc. So I haven't had an idea yet. Would you mind share me what material suitable to make the lightweight outdoor cage? If lightweight wouldn't the entire cage blown up by wind easily?

Something like this , you can make one with wheels if you're handy and roll it in + out of your garage. Or you can make it with pvc pipe as the frame if you can figure out how. Your beardie could spend an hour or more every day but of course you would check on them during that time if there are predators in your area that could break in this type of cage.

Wow that's a super nice big cage, I don't have such a big area but this surely gives a very good idea for the "interior design", thanks!

Hi, I think my bd is having MBD, because his head shakes and muscle trembles. May I know for MBD do I need to use special bulbs or I can remain the same bulbs just make sure he gets longer hours of exposure?

Currently using Exo Terra Intense Basking Spot and Zoomed Reptisun T8 10.0.

Has he been basking under the uvb bulbs at all or just getting 15-45 minutes outside ? If you turned off 1 the uvb bulb in the middle, turn it back on every 2 days but raise it a little higher. Are the uvb bulbs still good ? Do you use calcium powder, how often ?

Also you mentioned that the cool end is 86-88F and you made an air-con box but he wasn't using it. He may still be overheated for long periods of time which could be a big problem. Is it still that hot ?

T 8's need to be unobstructed - if the T 8 is on top of the screen please get it in the tank -- nothing over the bulb it needs to be naked meaning no clear plastic cover over the bulb if there is one- 6-8 inches directly over the basking decor piece and not over 6 months old I recommend changing it out at 5 months --

Pics of the set up are on page 1 , the uvb is inside + unobstructed. O.P is in Malaysia and may have an off brand bulb though due to the small selection in that country.

I thought so seems I recognized the name -- but wanted to make sure - and I think she has the Reptisun bulb or at least that is what she stated in post above --

On Amazon and eBay only 1 seller on each platform offer shipping to my country, I can't just rely on them, also it is very expensive. So I'd like to find any possible alternative since the bulb should be changed frequently.

OK no coils. If only tube, can reptizoo tube like this qualified? Because in my country most of the sellers carry this Reptizoo brand.

I dont recommend the reptizoo brand - if you can get the Reptisun or a Arcadia 12% bulb stick w/ them - the outside time he will benefit more - especially w/ the Reptizoo brand - what kind of winters do you have over there? Can you get him out year round? If you can get him outside year round then I would say you can use the Reptizoo brand - its just not a good bulb -- I would also change it out more often - like every 5 months if its the T 5 a good bulb like the ones mentioned above will last 10 - 11 months before changing out -- if you can get the Reptisun bulb from the sellers order 2 at a time then your set for almost 2 years since they will last 10 - 11 months -- if you go that route make sure you mark on the box or calendar when you install them - they wont expire not being used --

Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
