Beardie babe are HUGE hornworm. Is this ok??

Afternoon! Mr. McClane ate a 1.5 to 2 inch long horn worm today. I actually had him out of his enclosure and I wanted to give him one, but since they are so big, I was going to cut it up. But I dropped it from the tweezers, and he snagged it super fast. He’s really crazy about hornworms.

I’m worried about the size of it and I’m wondering if you guys think he will be OK? Is there anything I can give him to help him pass it? I know that they have a soft shell, but I’m still worried because it was so big!

I agree, and Mr. M is big enough to eat larger prey items like that. You don't have to cut them up. If you cut them up the innards drip out like apple sauce and the skin is like a tiny deflated balloon. [ Sorry for the visual ]

I would agree with the others but use caution on the size. I gave my boy a huge hornworm and it looked like he had trouble getting it down. Just keep an eye on them when eating

Yes, with the ones that are as big as a finger but this hornworm was way smaller at 1.5 -2" long. This dragon is a year old and can eat those with no problem. I think the title of the thread might make it seem that Mr. McLane is a baby but he's a sub adult.

Hello,

I concur, though it is always good to be mindful of the size of insects being fed, he is big enough to
handle that sized hornworm. Luckily, they are soft bodied but it has happened here on the forum where
a dragon did choke on a hornworm. They snag things so quickly!
