So I just woke up early due to a loud thrashing in my boy's tank. Ran over and saw his silhouette running around. I turned on the light and he freaked, black beard puffed up but not hissing, and ran into his hidey hole.

What was left were these; chunks of red-purple stuff that almost looks like undigested foo. I have no idea what it could be. I haven't fed him anything with that texture or color recently and he hasn't shown any sign of being ill, so this is very concerning.

I plan to make him a vet appointment as soon as possible. Please help identify this if you can.

Edit: Forgot to mention his current condition: He's still a bit frazzled, but his beard isn't black anymore. Breathing is a bit heavy but still sort of normal. He was a bit jumpy when I picked up the chunks.

Did he eat anything red, some type of berries ? How is he acying now ? That almost looks like blood, hopefully it's berries instead. Post pics of him to show what he looks like now, also pics of the entire tankand light set up.

Good news, he seems to be feeling much better now. He had a bowel movement (no urate) which was slightly watery and I think I found one of those chunks in it as well; although it wasn't bloody looking this time.

To answer your question, the only berries he's had recently was one blueberry last night and I haven't fed him anything red aside from tiny chopped-up carrots I added to his dinner from a little package.
(It's mixed dried veggies that I use when I don't have any fresh ones for him, and I made sure to let them soften up in water first.)

He seems much happier now that he's had a bowel movement, no dark beard whatsoever and more active now, walking about his tank. I'm still going to take him to the vet however because those chunks are quite concerning to me.

Oh and in the pictures of his tank it looks more empty because I took out some decorations to wash. I plan on using my mini vac to clean it up a bit more once he's more comfortable later.

(Forgot to mention, the brown spots on the carpet are just stains, They've been cleaned many times but I haven't been able to get the stain out. Considering buying a new one for him since this one is quite worn.)

I agree with Claudius. A couple of things worth mentioning, how late did he eat and what are the temps. in the tank ? Too hot or too cold might cause vomiting. And a suggestion for you, he needs a bigger tank to really benefit from a heat gradient and also just quality of life, more area to move around. And a tip for better flooring is to use non adhesive shelf liner that can be wiped clean more easily than carpet.

Hopefully Dagnus will continue to feel better , he's a handsome dragon and it's obvious that his beardie dad loves him. :)

Hello,

Wow, that would be scary to see that in his tank, I totally agree. It is most likely blueberry, so it
must not have set well in his tummy.
I hope Dagnus feels better soon, he looks great!
Maybe for a few days, keep him a little warmer overnight right now, to help his system out. You
can also try giving him a bit of extra oral fluids in case he got dehydrated a little.

You guys were right!

Today we came back from the vet who said he was perfectly healthy, and that the chunks were likely the blueberry that just didn't sit well with him. Thanks to everyone for your insight, it really helps to process things and calm down even if it's not as bad as I thought. (Especially since this is my first reptile I've taken care of)

Also, I've never heard about the shelf liner, I'll def look it up! If it cleans better, it'll be my godsend

It does help when you get another opinion & can think about it logically. It is stressful when they are
not 100% but I think he is fine. Hopefully his tummy is better!
The non adhesive shelf liner is very good & easy to wipe down & keep clean. Plus, there is usually
a pretty good choice in patterns too, so he can have decorative flooring!

I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate

What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
